Default Weeds

Can anybody identify this weed. It grows in small patches throughout the lake, and some patches have long, (2-3') strings with one single flower on the surface. The weed is normally about 5-10' deep, with the flower "stem" coming the the surface, and a small flower about the size of a cherry seed floating on the surface.

I'm thinking it's Brazilian Elodea, but I'm not certain...

Thanks,

I don't know anything about Brazilian, but it sure resembles the plant that is abundant around here, which I believe is common waterweed, elodea canadensis. The leaves are tiny, not more than 5/8" long.

Ryan,

As far as I know, hydrilla has not yet invaded Michigan. It has been found in certain lakes in Indiana, but not in Michigan - yet.

Looks like Elodea to me. Its a good plant in the winter months cause it usually keeps on doing photosynthesis, so it always is producing oxygen in the water when a lot of other plants go dormant.

Hey guys, can you ID this one for me--

no I didn't find it in my pond, but in my basement. I was behind a wall of rubbermade containers. I was only able to get one leaf before the guarddog chased me off.

Thanks,
BB
