Reusing Power Pro braid
Last summer I spooled up a casting reel with Power Pro. I am making some adjustments to my rod and reel lineup, switching some reels to other rods. I have a situation where I want to use Power Pro braid on one reel which is now holding mono. I also have a reel with Power Pro, spooled last summer, which I am thinking about simply transferring to the reel I now want to hold braid. The braid line seems to be in good condition. However, I am unsure about whether this would be a bad move or if the braid line would still be ok to reuse on another reel. I have read about braid line lasting 2 or 3 seasons. Thats why I am thinking it may be ok to transfer it from one reel to another. What do you think?

Kdog, For what it's worth, I've used PowerPro for a season or two without any problems yet. I've also transfered it from one reel to another with some extra backing if needed. There's a lot of opinions on whether or not that method is good or not- especially for tournament reels. I may just be getting lucky, but, for me, PowerPro gets easier to use after a good season's worth of casting. Good luck!

Absolutely, Keith-no problem at all. Matter of fact, of you transfer it from reel to reel the line in the business end of the new reel was the backing on the old reel. I've done it on several reels with no problems.

I've heard of at least one person who didn't change his braid for over 4 seasons. Unlike mono, it is not subject to UVs. You can bet your bottom dollar your braid is good and will remain good, especially if just left on a reel unused.
I have done this myself and it is one reason I usually keep a couple of empty filler spools around for switching of line. I also mark the spool with the # test of braid in case I forget.

I respool constantly. Strip off one reel and start the process. Just transfer used stuffand make it the backer, unused stuff ends up on top. At $22 a spool, I get my moneys worth. By the way Im sitting on 2 years w/o changing line.

This will be year 3 for my flippin reel too, although I don't use it much. The line is still in perfect condition. I had Fireline Crystal fray and break on hooksets after 2-3 months last year, but I used that reel a lot. (now it has PP on it )

K-Dog, KVD's got a spray out there for line that's supposed to help it last longer, cast better, coil less, etc. I've used it on PP braid for years and, coincidence or not, the braid's lasted great. 'Course, it could just be that it's never had the stress of a lot of real hawgs on it either!

Ive had the same bright orange suffix on my Mg that I use wade fishing for 2 years now. Reds, trout and flounder are some toothy sobs and jetty rocks work like a saw on mono. Just my $.02
