Eakins jigs

Have any of you used an Eakin's jig? If so what are you Oppiniions, pro's and con's?

they were to soft which is bad when fishing wood or docks

its just something i was told i have never used them

Cool,dude I'll check that out they are kind of soft but I prefer that than really stiff fibers. I'll bend them out some so they do a better jog of srpinging a hook over the wood. Don't understand why it would make a difference around docks unless they are refering to dropping the jig in brushpiles around the docks. I consider brushpiles as wood, generally speaking. Bending it out the weedgaurd and maybe T-rigging a plastic trailer will do the trick.

They are made by the Jewel tackle company. I don't look for light jigs ,I want a jig with a heavy hook to go to the heart of the heaviest cover I can find. The jewel finesse jigheads are a really great jighead when rigging tube craws or tubebaits.P N J

they are made about 45 minutes from my house. i love them and i get bit a lot more on them than i do heavier jigs, especially when the bass are spooky. i haven't had any problems with their weed guards and i flip them around a lot of docks, in my opinion they are deffinatley worth the money!

Of course you do, because you fish them more than you do heavier jigs.Its good to support your local products. When the bass are spooky, fish in the 4 -9 ft. depth that are going to be less spooky than the bank runners are. P N J

no to be honest i don't really fish them that much more than i do heavier jigs. and i am not trying to support them because they are local. i was just giving my opinion on them, and i honestly like them. just like any other bait there is not best one. but when you need a lighter jig the will get the job done. that is my honest opinion.

Not a bad jig for sparse cover but as stated they got 2 problems. One the gaurd is not necessarily to limber it doesnt have enough strands in it IMHO and 2 the hook is to light to pull a fish outta heavy cover. I would definatly use them if I was still fishing northern waters but down here they just wont walk the walk.

My brother used them when we went to KY Lake and caught some good fish on them. He might of had a bad batch of them though because he would break off alot at the knot. I've heard another guy say the same thing. I don't know if they have a bur in the eye or what. I use small jigs a fair amount and mostly use Strike King Bitsy Bugs or an S&W jig (local guy makes them).

My favorite color is black/blue/purple. I use to fish it with a barnyard red pork trailer. Caught a pile of nice bass on it. I probably should go back to it really!
