Yeah, I switch out the blade on the rear to a larger willow leaf. I have caught some nice fish on those.

my opinion is the head shape. They are not only a lot smaller, but they are also pretty blunt and not as "pointed" as most other spinnerbait heads. I've wanted to try one for a while, 653 to be specific, but just never thought to buy one whenever i've had the chance.

What do you guys think about adding a 4" White grub to the back of this spinnerbait? To heavy? Thanks

Most of the time I use a trailer on my spinner bait. A 4 in grub should work good. Push it all the way up the hook shank and let it lay straight inline with the hook, should be a bass getter.

I always put a grub on all spinnerbaits and buzzbaits, or the tail end of a worm that has been used before,
The fatter or longer the grub usually results in the spinnerbait moving slower.
Anytime you feel the need to throw a slow moving spinnerbait, choose one with a heavier lead head, like a 3/4 ounce for example, and the bigger the blade usually means more thump and slower retrieve, a good combo for really murky waters where the idea is to call them in with the vibration of the bait..
Try throwing a 1/4 ounce spinnerbait and see how quickly it moves in the water, then try a 1 ounce with a big blade or combo and you'll note that it moves considerably slower, each has a time and place....

as far as spinnerbaits go, they are just a TINY bit larger than strike king mini-kings. Both are pretty compact in size and that DOES help them in pond situations where smaller baits usually win out over larger sized lures. I like them but they are definitely not something I'd be fishing in and around thick cover, although they MAY be able to slide through some medium density grass decently.

As for trailers, I vary. Sometimes I use them, sometimes I don't. Depends on how I feel the bite is going or my luck so far in the day. If I am fishing w/ a trailer and not getting much, obviously I change, and if I'm not using one with the same results, I'll put one on. Sometimes I match the color, sometimes I make it vastly different.

One of my favorite combinations is a chartreuse skirt with a purple trailer. I don't know why but the fish seem to love it.

I found they worked better with an odd coloured trailer like a white with purple trailer
