Default Big bass caught in New York

Some one told me at work that a guy caught a 22lb bass in New York somewhere. He caught it on a rat bait. Anyone know if this is true?

Due to the genetics, growth rate and life expectancy of the largemouth bass it is highly unlikly to happen in NY. Even in the south where the growing season is 9 to 11 months and the genetics for the southern strain or Florida strain being as strong as they are those fish are very fewand far between . The areas most likely to produce such a fish are California, Texas or Florida. Georgia or Ala are smaller possibilities. Fish2win

I know I have seen a 12.5 lb Largemouth that was taken through the ice on a small NY State lake in December.I have seen a 11.7 lb Largemouth weighed in at a tournament, and another time a 9.6 lb largemouth weighed in at a different tournament. There are 30lb+ weight for 5 smallmouth bass weighed in from Chautauqua lake several times in the past few years.22lbs is way out there on the weight, but who would have thought the other fish would have been caught in a northern state ? Marty, The State records don't mean a whole lot to most people who fish alot. What it means is a big hassel to go through just to have your name in the record book and most likely death to the fish, by the time you take it to a certified scale , get it weighed and then wait for the news paper people to arrive and take pictures. When I catch the record size bass, I will most likely release it after a few quick pictures providing I have a camera with me.I would like to be remembered as a person who catches alot of fish rather than some idiot in the record book. i wouldn't consider somebody who broke a ny state record and kept the fish to be an idiot.suppose the guy releases 98% of what he catches and eat's a couple now and then.would he be an idiot?i don't think so.

bass grow twice as fast in warmer water than they do in cold.if he caught that exact same fish in the south,it would 44 pound so i doubt if thats true,in mississipi out record is some where near 14 pounds so there is big fish here too

If a 22.4 pound bass was caught in Georgia that means it is just a matter of time until the Bama state record is shatterd. I beleive I know where it would be caught to. Either on the Alabama river up near Tuscaloosa or in a private pond arounnd Montgomery or Birmingham. But of course the Georgia record was also about 73 years old. There is no telling if the fish is actualy that big or not. But I beleive somewhere in California there is a bass waiting to be caught that is over the 30lb. mark. I seriously beleive it. And its just a matter of time........

Dodgeguy, Since you asked, I do personally think you are an god damned idiot for eating a few bass.If you were turned down for public assistance and can't find a job, and you and your family is starving to death, call me I will catch you fish to eat, even go out and poach an deer to provide meat for you & your family, and start a canned food drive at work for ya if you need it, but the general population ain't going to starve to death anytime soon. Now you can give me the management speach about too many bass will create disease and kill the species off, but I don't buy that **** either. The human race has screwed more **** up on accident than nature would ever create on purpose. Eat bass, get fat , be happy, I won't think any less of you than any other human being. Thankfully I am not in any position to judge anyones behavior or habits. P N J

"Dodgeguy, Since you asked, I do personally think you are an god damned idiot for eating a few bass."

so why don't you join p.e.t.a.?people like you run the risk of sounding like them and giving them respectability.if i catch 500 bass per year and eat 5 that makes me a moron?do you hunt?do you eat any fish of any kind?WHAT MAKES A BASS SO MUCH DIFFERENT FROM ANIMALS YOU EAT?there are some lakes where they want you to keep the smaller fish.there have been articles in in-fisherman and other respectable magazines that prove that catch and release is not always the best for a fishery.for you to shoot off your uniformed mouth and call somebody who keeps a record fish or eats one once in a while an idiot is uncalled for, uneducated and extremely rude and ignorant!!!

Thats funny. You made me spit coffee on the monitor while reading your post.If you only catch 500 bass a year , I guess your not going to wipe the entire bass population out by eating a few that you catch. Every year I keep 5 lake trout and a few salmon to have smoked and yesterday I brought a smallmouth up too fast and killed it from being airlocked.Thats in the freezer, but why would I spend so much money on bass tackle to use when I could use live bait and a cane pole to catch all that my family could eat ? I fish to reduce stress, get away from the rat race, isolated in my little boat out on the water, not having to deal with the phone ringing or trying to find something to watch on the t.v.I don't fish to intentionally harm a little creature who has a brain that could fit in a sewing thimble, but I do hunt, with both a bow and a gun. I have hunted all of my life, and was properly taught to do so living out here in the country, its no big deal to own a gun, just another tool we use to provide food for our families. Fishing allows me to catch a living thing and then release it back to the wild, try taking a picture and release a deer shot through the heart with a 12 gauge, it don't work very well. BTW we have a saying in these parts , Don't let your alligator mouth get your hummingbird @ss in trouble, or the new one is don't let your mouth write checks your @ss can't cash. P N J
