Default born from 1930 to 1979

I want you guys to tell about what you think what is said
This long but a good read.
That's when I grew up and I agree 100%

Born 1930-1979
I hope this is not a repost...Long but, true..
Here's to US!!!!
No matter what our kids and the new generation think about us,
WE ARE AWESOME !!!!
OUR LIFE IS LIVING PROOF !!!!
To Those of Us Born
1930 - 1979
At the end of this email is a quote of the month
by Jay Leno... If you don't read anything
else, please read what he said.
Very well stated, Mr. Leno.

TO
ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED
THE 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!
First, we survived being born to mothers who
smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing and tuna
from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep
on our tummies in baby cribs
covered with bright colored lead-base paints…

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles,
locks on doors or cabinets
and when we rode our bikes, we had baseball caps
not helmets on our heads.

And when we had our sleds,
we tied them to the bumper of a car
and had a really neat ride
as long as you made sure
you didn't slide under the car
when it stopped .

As infants & children, we would ride in cars
with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts,
no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes.

Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day
was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose
and not from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends,
from one bottle
and no one actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter or lard and bacon.
We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar.
And, we weren't overweight..
WHY?
Because we were always outside playing...
that's why!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day,
as long as we were back
when the streetlights came on…
No one was able to reach us all day.
And, we were
OKAY.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps
and then ride them down the hill,
only to find out we forgot the brakes.
After running into the bushes a few times,
we learned to solve the problem

We did not have Play stations, Nintendo's and X-boxes.
There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable,
no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's,
no cell phones, no personal computers,
no Internet and no chat rooms.

WE HAD FRIENDS
and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth
and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We would get spankings with
wooden spoons, switches, ping-pong paddles,
or just a bare hand
and no one would call child services
to report abuse...

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt,
and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays,
made up games with sticks and tennis balls,
and although we were told it would happen,
we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house
and knocked on the door or rang the bell
or just walked in and talked to them.

Little League had tryouts
and not everyone made the team.
Those who didn't had to learn
to deal with disappointment.
Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.
They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced
some of the best
risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.

The past 50 years have been
an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility,
and we learned how to deal with it all.

If YOU are one of them,
CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others
who have had the luck to grow up as kids,
before the lawyers and the government regulated
so much of our lives for our own good.

While you are at it, forward it to your kids
so they will know how brave and lucky their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house
with scissors, doesn't it ? (LOL)

The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:
'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding,
severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another,
and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks,
are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'

For those that prefer to think
that God is not watching over us... go ahead and delete this.. For the rest of us...pass this on..

Yeah....we're raising a generation of pu$$ies right now, what with all the soft padding, emotional counseling, and outcome manipulating. I almost hope the Chinese come and take our candy. We deserve it.

yea, i was born in the 80's and i can relate to about 98% of it. That's the way it should be, Reading that brought back a lot of good memories and growing up in eastern Kentucky helped it out a lot too I guess that was a really awesome post.

Modified it a bit to me since I was born in 78 the rest of that is true....

As infants & children, we would ride in cheap costco or sears unbranded car seats with a lap belt only, no booster seats, no air bags, bald tires. If you sat in the middle then there was no middle seat belt. Sometimes on long trips we would climb up in the back window dash area and sleep or watch traffic from there.

We had video games but you had to work to get them to play anything, learn programming code for the commodore64, or blow on the cartridge for the Atari or Nintendo, or learn Basic on the IBM 8088. It was still educational and we only played them for short periods before we went back outside to play.

There were no 150 channels on cable, you were lucky if you could get 3 local channels on the tinfoil rabbit ears. We didn't have surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms. Music came from a little square "tape" that held 3 or 4 songs, then you had to stop then turn it over to hear the 3-4 songs on the other side.

We would get spankings with wooden spoons, switches, ping-pong paddles, or just a bare hand and no one would call child services to report abuse... (We still do this to our daughters in our own home)

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all. Now the motto of the new generation is "blame someone else".

Nice update Screw, I was born in '78 too. I had totally forgotten about blowing into the Atari and Nintendo cartridges to get them to work, that's funny.

Hmm... not sure if this is criticizing our generation or not, but other than a few things, dose not sounds very different than me (other than the chat rooms, and PC's). I get spanked, and my pop's ain't ever gonna bail me out!

I can remember when the milk man came around. We would sneak in his truck to get ice chips to suck on when it was hot in the summer. We would sit out at night to see the sputnicks in the sky. We'd go out and play in the morning and not come home till supper. And then go out and come back when it got dark. The local beer distributor had tons of wood pop cases and we would make shacks outta them. You could go to the Army and Navy store to buy bell bottoms and the record store to buy 45's. Getting mad because my mom and sister wanted to watch the Beatles on Ed Sullivan and I wanted to watch the Swamp Fox on the Wonderful World Of Disney. You could a 12oz. pop and a candy bar for 15 cents. Comic books were a dime. You could go to the local bar and buy baseball cards for a nicklel

The main reason it's our generations fault is because we didn't dish the arse whippings ya'll deserved. On top of that we had a bad habit of doing everything for ya, instead of trial and error.

X2, lash. Now the generation before mine? Really good arse whoopin generation right there lol.
If I got in trouble somewhere else? Not only did my Dad consider it their God given right to deal one out, but it was multiplied by 2 when I got home lol.
A big problem with the majority of kids today, in my mind, is that punishment has been taken out of the hands of parents.
There's a huge difference between an arse whoopin and child abuse.
I was on the reciving end of many an arse whoopin, but never in my life, from that time till now, did I ever think of it as abuse.
I did something I knew I wasn't supposed to do, and got caught? I deserved to get a paddlin

Yes indeed I remember all of this. It's kind of funny you mentioned the milkman, because me and the bassinbandit were fishing back in a cove Sunday and on one of the docks was one of those old metal containers that milkmen used to your milk in, it still had milk in big red letters wrote across it. Adam didn't have clue what is was.

Even though I was born in 68, I have no milk man memories. Being from a small town and all. We didn't even have an Ice Cream Man!
THE ICE CREAM MAN IS COMIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sadly, most of you will have no idea where that came from

And mallen, wehre i lived we did have and icecream man....it was US. Homamade ice cream every saturday. My brother would do the cranking so he could get 1 bowl more than anyone else. My job was to sit on the maker while he cranked it. I still love homemade ice cream more than store bought.

If you like ice cream you should totally do it! Nothing better than homemade ice cream. You can probably even make a unsweet tea flavored ice cream.
