Default tried the boat today

and a yup, it's got a leak. Got to figure out where it is and hopefully patch it some how. Was an interesting experience today. Got it out there with my bro-in-law who lets me get in first. I step over one seat and get part way over the next when he decides to go ahead and cast of. I think it already had some water in it which is why as my weight was going to one side, that water went to that side to so the boat just kept going. Plus I think as I was falling ole bro in law (a navy veteran mind you who apparently has not learned to let first passengers get seated in a small boat before you cast off and board yourself ), was in the process of casting off and boarding. The boat rolled to the left, I landed on my back, some where between in the boat and out.

Got myself up on my seat, he was on his and I say, "It's leakin" He says he's not sure if it's a leak or just came in the boat from my fall. I say's "Nope if it came in from my falling, the water wouldn't still be rising." Paddled the boat around and got back on shore.

We did some fishing from the shore, but there was only about 30 yards of shore clear enough to fish from without getting on someone else's property. Of course we didn't catch anything after that racket and splashing we made with the boat. I did fish those lures I made and they swim true except for the one with the deep diving bill. It worked fine if you fished it very slow and steady, but if you retrieve it just a hair too fast and it turns sideways and runs top water splattering water, which could look like a wounded fish I guess, but not what is intended. But the others run great.

Kinda mad cause it's a nice sized pond that aint really been fished in awhile. Lilly pads cover 90% of it now and there used to be good structures as in trees and logs. I just know if we coulda got that boat in those pads and threw some worms or jigs or even ran some spro frogs, we have got some nice fish.

Well, hopefully, you can locate the exact leak and fix it. It sounds like a pond that has real potential. Especially if your not falling into the water. haha Good to hear most of your baits ran true. Maybe you can tweak the one that don't, or perhaps use it for certain situations where it's running character can be utilized.

I have read a few articles on that stuff and they say it is not as advertised. But I have never used it myself.

I'm gonna leave this alone.

On another note. I think I've figured out that it's coming from the bolts holding the wood onto the transom. They be rusted bad, I should have considered that before my dumb self decided to put it in the water. and there's a couple holes back there in the aluminum about the size a ice pick would make. Looks like they were chipped out. I got no idea hoe that could have been done unless it came from pebbles being thrown up on it while being transported. Don't think it's going to be anything too hard to fix.

I may try that on the holes Keith. Gonna replace the woos, bolts, and nuts and see if I can find some marine silicone to seal around the bolts. Any better suggestion sure would be appreciated. Money is an issue, I aint got much of it. lmao

You gotta be careful when you start dealing with woos. It's really tricky stuff......

Just rig up a sky hook,no giddy up to it ,pitch woo later
Silicone the bolts n nuts any bathroom type is certified for wet areas-cheap over marine, its a mind over matter thing if you dont mind it dont matter.Try filling it with some water to see if and where then treat accordingly.wood can be treated with a chemical to make it into a semi fiberglass board, resists rot 4 -5 bucks for the elmers at any building supply store, like 4 oz but it aint a cabin cruiser 4 0z goes a long ways.More well known and more expensive would be rot doctor more or less same stuff.
Some might cringe surplus house paint greens browns etc make nice filler and a neat funky redneck camo job, also seals small cracks etc.Apply liberally, toss mop away afterward.Dont laugh ive painted many a tin roof with one.And they didnt leak afterward.
