Default Fishing Superstitions

Just for fun, what are some of y'alls fishing superstitions? I've thought about it quite a bit and I don't think I have any. For other things I do, but not fishing. Yours?

a 30 degree temp drop, wind from east, with a clear blue sky is my only superstition, true you can still get fish to bite, but it usually is a long day, ones that I tend to shy away from.

and here I am unlike the rest of you. If I catch a fish first cast, It usually foreshadows a good day.

Alright , heres one of mine.. If im not catching any fish , I will open a new bag I always bring ( just in case ) of Bar-B-Que Pork Rinds , and chow down.. I usually catch fish after that. I dont think its the snack , but rather the time to reflect what I could be doing wrong , or what I should try next....

If I see a snake in the first 10 minutes on the water it's going to be a good day.

Everytime I cross over the tennessee river, I shout out loud "I love you tennessee river". I have found that the river has feelings like a person, so I respect it like one. I derived this superstition from the first time I fished guntersville. I had heard all this great stuff about the lake, and the first time I tried her I was thouroughly skunked. At the end of a 13 hour day, after pulling the boat out of the water, I made a point to go down to the end of the ramp and spit in the water out of disgust (I was rash and young at the time).

The next 10 or so trips at G'ville, I was likewise skunked. For whatever reason, I didn't blame a lack of skill, as my skill was sufficient for many locations, no I blamed myself for disrespecting that particular body of water. From then on out I have granted an unusual amount of reverence to the water I fish. Even on the rare times I am forced to relieve myself in the lake, I ask pardon for it beforehand from the body of water in which I piss.

There. Hows that for a weird superstition?

Yeah, that's an unusual one, but I really like the sentiment.

When ever I buy a new rod or reel. I always take my old one with me just in case I can't break the jinx off the new one and I always, always listen to some ZZ top before going fishing. To be more specific My Heads in Mississippi. Don't underestimate the power of the Reverend.

Simple wear a hat = catch fish, No hat = No fish. However my son (9yrs) believes two hat may be a jinx -so if we are together he wears one and I don't...

No nanners. And almost all legal fish caught off the beach are kept. (Some old pier rat saw me releasing a nice whiting, he said "When the ocean gives you something, Don't give it back." Sure enough, next 5 or 6 trips I got skunked.....)

Here's my post from awhile back:

My only thing is insisting that everyone I run into on the way to the water wishes me good luck. I told my nephews they have to kiss every fish they catch or they won't get another.

Speaking of superstitions, I change the lyrics to Stevie Wonder's "Superstitious" to "Very stupid fishes, you'll be hanging on my wall," when I'm really nailing them. I get too many laughs from other anglers and passersby.
