is it a 3/4 inch tapered shaft? if it is you have to put the ut back on it till it is flushwith the end of the shaft then pull out on the wheel HARD and have someone fit the nut(end of shft) with a hammer it will pop off but make sure the nut is flush or you will mess up the threads.......other option is a steering wheel puller

Take everything off that you can. Put just the nut on till its almost flush with the shaft. Now get in the seat and with both hands pull straight back and with the aid off someone with good aim use a 24oz ball peen and smack the nut and shaft several times. If she wont budge get some penetraing oil in there and let sit and do it again. She will let loose just make sure that your aid has good aim. Do NOT let the nut get below flush of the shaft bor you will mushroom the endd of the shaft.

Using a nut isnt the best idea. Find a peice of brass. It wont damage the threads. It will chip the brass first. Place both knees under the wheel if you can and use your body weight to pull while u hit the shaft. It should pop off. Put some anti-seize on it when you go back with it.
