What do you think a good over all clear water bait is?

some kind of natural looking bait.use natural colors that match the forage.i use spinnerbaits and lipless crankbaits.

You need to give some more info, like light conditions, water temp, what species of fish are you looking for, are you fishing a pond, resorvoir, river, lake, or whatever, time of day, where are you fishing (dropoffs, the shoreline, deep).

I’m sorry it is a reservoir. Water temp let’s say around 88. As in what type of area your fishing you can pick your own area. I personally like to fish timber during the warmer months. As in time you would start at 0630 and end around 1400. Type of weather would be bright and sunny. If there is any other info to a hypothetical questions please ask.

Alright thank you very much, I agree with the natural colors, use some swimbaits, some Zoom Superflukes, and maybe some crankbaits in the natural colors of the forage there.

Fluke, and Lizards. Well truly there are a lot of techniques and baits that can and will work. Cranks seem to work pretty well for me also. The drop shot rig was developed for clear water. So you'll have to figure out what technique and baits work best for you under those conditions.

Baits I use for clear water....
topwater early- late in day if your on a smallmouth lake
Dropshot.....use Zoom Meat heads 4inch finese worms, senkos , flukes, reapers up north or smallmouth present, tiny flukes
Spinnerbait....I know it sounds crazy but KVD swears by it and I think it works as long as you got wind.... just burn it on points and bluffs....
Spidergrub jig....awesome on bluffs or for draggin on deep points for spots or smallies....
Finese jig....great bluff bank lure
These are the baits I use in clear water

got lot of grass ....Flukes can be good but as you see lots of people use them so the fish usually have gotten use to them on a lot of these lakes....try a tube instead and fish it in the same matter..

Use lighter line unless using a spinnerbait or topwater...
6lb line or even 4 can make for more action! Use spinning with these!

I will go against conventional wisdom on color selection and throw something completly different, something they don't see everyday. Since about 75% of my fishing is done with crankbaits, I would select a bait that runs at the depth I want and in a color that will not match the hatch anywhere in freshwater. Have never been convinced that a bass takes the time to make a scale count on a crank or spinnerbait when it goes by.

4" pumpkin shaker worms are my favorite or hand pours i dont use any weight and try to put them any where there is shade or a drop off don't be fooled big fish eat little baits too i had a 6.2 lbs largemouth last summer on that worm last year which isnt bad for long island new york if you looking to fish faster try any stick bait in a trout pattern i find the fish like this pattern even if trout aren't available spiners and bandits arent baid ethier

The drop shot should get them pretty good. Also the shakey head with a natural color worm should do well also.

i fish table rock a lot and it is gin clear. i am talking you can see a crawdad on the bottom in 10 to 12 feet of water most of the time. i still catch a ton of fish on a jig as it is my go to confidence bait, i just tweak it a little and play with colors some also. but there are a lot of other baits out there that are more taylor made for clear water, one of them is a dropshot.

bullwinkle gave me another idea. a carolina rig is very deadly on deep structure, especially when you don't have any wind.
