I'm just wondering how much this setup is. I figured the rod is worth some money being a G-Loomis and all. I have clicked on the Cabela's website and can't find either the rod or the reel.

Is this a cutom built rod by any chance?

I can't find anything on G.loomis IM6 rods, just blanks. and the only rods I know of are GL2, GL3, IMX, and GLX.

If it is a custom rod, depending on the components, I'd value it at around 120-130 bucks new. I've found blanks for 70 bucks, plus probably 30 bucks for components, and maybe 20-30 for labor, maybe more.

As for the reel, that is an older reel. I found one on Ebay for around 60 bucks.

Thanks BB. It feels like it would be a good lipless crank rod and reel. The problem that I have is that I have been given (for free) 3 baitcaisters and they are all right handed. For some reason, I fish left handed. I also shoot pool left handed. Everthing else, I do right handed. I have been practicing reeling in these baitcasters but it still feels a bit weird.

G Loomis renamed their IM6 series GL3. (did a little tweaking too, I imagine)

That being said, I haven't found a single GL3 rod made from a C724 blank. I've seen IMX and GL2 rods, but no GL3. The GL2 was $150, and the IMX was $250, so I would imagine that rod went for around $200 new, but it's just an educated guess. The reel is extra, obviously.

CR724GL2 ---> $155
Citica 200 ---> $100

Total = $255

If you are buying and both are in tip top condition ---> offer $190-200.

I'm not buying them. They were given to me. My sister-in-law's mother gave me several rods and reels a few months ago. This was one that she found just recently and gave me. I was smiling when I saw the name brands on the rod and reel. I was just wondering what it was worth if I ever want to sell them. I would only sell them if I can't get used to using a right-handed baitcaster.

FnG, even if you can't get used to the reel, I'd keep that rod. even though it is Loomis lowest end offering, it is still a great rod.

I plan on keeping all the rods that were not damaged. That G-Loomis rod is by far the best one he owned. I don't know how his own kids missed that. They grabbed all the lures but left the rod and reels. Yeah for me.

The only problem with the rod is I don't know if the rod is M or MH or whatever. I am not experienced enough with different rods to know by feel.

I plan on keeping some of the baitcaster reels even if I can't get used to them. Not many people are left-handed fisherman and it would nice for me to have something for some friends to fish with. I also don't know what hand my son prefers. He is only 2 but I plan on taking him fishing a lot next summer when he is a bit older and his attention span is longer than 2 seconds.

Good luck with your son, my 10 year cousin still has a 2 second attention span. so I watch his bobber and my line, lol.

Anyways, If I had to guess, I'd say at a lure weight of 3/8-1, it's a MH and most likely a fast action.

The CR724 is a Heavy power Fast action rod. I´ve got one as my "tuff woody/weedy cover" hohoho jig/worm/spinnerbait rod.

Would using the rod for heavy cranking or frog fishing in heavy cover a practical use for the rod?

Heavy cranking ? I feel the rod is too stiff to be a good cranking rod, frog fishing is good, a little bit short but it can pull them from the salad.

Yeah, Raul is probably right. Too heavy for a crank. although it probably is a big short for frogs, it will work. I'd use it for shorter range worm and jig pitching.
