Fishin' Today
After John texted me the pictures of his fish (which I still think were most likely Lisa's ), I got some gear together and my dad and I headed to the local reservoir.
I started off with a dropshot, and my dad a clown coloredo Rapala Husky Jerk. Nada on either of those. After I fished a jerkbait for a bit, I figured I should try a lipless crank. Now I've never caught a single fish on one, except for one floating rattle trap. I said what the heck, and tied on a Pearl Melon colored XCalibur Xr50. First cast, parallel to the shore, about 12' out, I thought I hung on some leftover weeds. As I was pulling this non moving mass of weeds in, I saw a flash and it started fighting. It really was the weirdest thing, I felt no hit, no head shake, no fight until he was halfway in. Anyways, he got off right at the shore as I was about to swing him up. D'OH! So my dad tied on a red Rat-L-Trap, and started casting. He caught one on it. I moved down the shore the opposite direction towards some guy fishing a jerkbait. After a backlash to ruin a reel for day (snapped my FC in the backlash, but that InvisX was over 2 years old, although it still hardly had any memory). So I tied the sample lipless crank onto my glass crankbait rod with a 5.2:1 reel. So naturally, my presentation slowed down a bit. Almost immediately, I hooked into the best fish of the day (sorry, no weights more measurements). Around leaving time, I caught another decent fish for this reservoir (they're all usually pretty similar, and we rarely catch something bigger). So all the fish were caught on a lure that I had no confidence in whatsoever before today. After today, I may pick up a lipless crank more often now. My dad's fish: My fish (my dad can't work the camera on my phone, so I have to take the pics of mine, lol). First is the bigger one, although it doesn't look like it from the pics: I got to break in a rod that I bought over the winter, as well as a new to me reel, both of which I'm quite pleased with. Reviews to come of both later this year! BB

Ok, first of all, I got those picks from John too and there is no way those could be Lisas. I think hers average about twice the size of those. Not disrespectin our good ole buddy John, just sayin. haha I enjoyed reading about how you started catching bass on a lipless crank. I have been in the same boat you have been regarding lipless cranks. Only caught maybe two in my life with them, untill this year. Suddenly I'm catching them on lipless cranks. Why now and not before I can't say, but like you, I have a renewed confidence in them. Congrats on those nice looking bass pal!!!

I reckon you guys are glad the ice is gone!? Now if the sun would come out, things ought to start popping up there. At least the fish are starting to move now! WTG, BB
