The next best craw bait
I have been using some baits, this last 2 years, from a small company called Minda Baits. There plastic baits are an interesting design with a large spear shape. I have seen some impresive catchs with these baits. This year, they introduced a craw bait to the line up. It's a large bait that is quite a bit different than any other craw on the market. The claws are the flat spear shape of their worms. The action can only be described as a subtle glide that displaces a lot of water. The first time i saw the bait, I was not very impressed. I couldn't see beyond my human perception of what I thought of as a craw. I'm very glad that I used them in spite of my first thought, or I would have missed out on some of the biggest bass i caught this year. This Minda craw flat out catchs the biggest bass around, but it will also catch numbers of smaller bass as well. It doesn't work every time I use it, But it works often enough that I always try it. Tony, aka tavery5, was fishing with me yesterday and was very interested in the Minda baits I showed him, so I decided that the rest of you might be as well. The best hook I have found for these baits is a 5/0 screw lock toad style hook. The point is texposed and the bait will last for numerous catchs without getting torn up. Here is a link to the Mind baits site.

Took a look at their site. Interesting baits. You have much contact with the owners?

The pics on the website do not do these justice. If you are looking for a large craw type bait, I would highly suggest taking a look at these. I will be placing my order soon, they are a very nice bait.

I agree. The Minda stuff is great. The owner is a fantastic bait designer who hasn't tried to re-invent the wheel. The Injured Minda and the Spearworms are also productive baits. Good heads up, pro reel.

I'm always looking for small companies that make good custom products to sell at the shows I do over the winter. I used to sell KidLizard trailers and plastics but they went out of business on me and I'm looking to fill the gap.
What length's do the craws come in? Do they do more colors than the four shown? Etc. |

Sorry to hear about KidLizard closing up. They had some pretty unique trailers and other baits.

I think that he only has those 4 colors right now. The spear craw is a 5 inch bait. He was talking about offering a shorter version later. His name is John guirens. His number is 1-866-649-2941. He will be happy to talk to you. he runs a family owned home remodling company by day, so he can take your call at any time. Tell him pro reel sent ya.

Hmm, looks like some good baits for sure. I'll have to try them out! I wonder if the smallies like 'em?

Bassboss- the smallies like the smaller version of the spearworm, for sure. Light weight T-rigged or dropshot.

Thanks, Pro Reel!
The baits work on most all freshwater game fish. I have had many from northern states use and CATCH multiple smallies as well as spots and LMB. I caught two 4lb'ers today on a 1/4oz swimming jig with a 4" greenpumpkin Spear Worm as a trailer. Look forward to visiting with all of you in the future!! |

Can't complain, brother. As far as Chancho-- thought I'd throw a little Latino in the mix. Good luck with the new craws and all the Minda baits, sir.

Great post pro reel, I just ordered a couple packs of both the spear worm and craw.. Wish the injured minda crank was available because I would love to try them out, but on the other hand, I can't wait to see the re-worked one and the new colorways!!

by the way, after ordering, i spoke with john through e-mail and he is a VERY nice man. extremely helpful. if these baits live up to the expectations (and i have a feeling they will surpass them) then this company is AWESOME.

your going to love those craws. The spear worms are great also, but the craws are my go to bait when i think the big girls are close. I found that a screw lock hook works the best and will make the craws last a lot longer. I use a 5/0 screw lock hook from moaner hooks that is basically a frog hook. A regular hook will tear the head of the bait up when you catch a fish.

okay cool, if i decide to fish the craws alone ill use a twist lock... im more interested to rig one of those as a jig trailer then to fish it solo but ill definately be experimenting as soon as they come in.
