Dog days of summer.
Went fishin all day yesterday and not a bite......Tried everything I could think of, with no results......I just hate it when that happens......I dunno what else to do but keep trying.

Super hot can be tough for sure. I remember a trip I took 4 years ago in the heat of the summer. Fished for 3 straight days at caught 3 fish. Super deep is not one of my strengths for sure!
Hang in there...fall is coming soon! My favorite time of year to fish. |

I hear you - I've been on vacation for a week, but stayed home due to tightness in the pocketbook. I've hit 4 lakes in the last 5 days, and not a single bass.
It's frustrating for sure when you're in 7 feet of water at 6am, looking down a 4 feet of grass and about 8-billion bluegill schooling, and you throw every lure in the box without a single bite! |

I'm shore bound tomorrow morning. Having trouble with lights on the trailer. Went last sat and caught one small bass. Have been fishing afternoons and evenings, maybe early morning will be better.

I love fishing after dark in the summertime usually from 8 or 9 pm until 2 or 3 am

I prefer to be on the water by 5AM if I can durring the summer. The early bite is usually the best. See my post in todays Braggin section to see what transpired today. It was tough but I did have a couple moments that made the day worth while. After the morning bite is over I usually do one of two things. Go deeper and work deep weedbeds, or work heavy cover by pitchin a Beaver Bait or other plastic or jig you like.

Good luck! I fished from 6 A.M. until about 3:30 this afternnon and only caught dinks, and not many if those. And I really like fishing deep! I also tried shallow and everything in between too. 10" worm caught the most dinks followed by deep crankbait.

Can't explain this one........several years ago while fishing a lake in Canada during a heatwave....104 degrees F with very low humidity, couldn't find the smallies and asked at the camp store for advice, the young lady there told us to go up the shoreline and fish the weedy shallows and docks of the lodge for largemouth. We fished deeper breaklines at first and weed edges.....no bites, somewhat reluctantly headed for the shallows and the docks.....spent a couple hours hauling in nice largemouth in the weedy shallows, also did well in the evening.

Well, I couldn't get'm to bite today either.....finally tied on a Beetlespin just to see if I could pick up some dinks, but all I caught was a few chunky rockbass and a couple of bream......Got tired of cookin in the sun and called it quits about 2pm......I suspect this is gonna get worse before it gets better since we still got August to get thru......OH WELL, I try again in a few days.
We did scare up a monster sized catfish back in a shallow creek channel......I'll bet that dude was 35# minimum.....I knew this lake was suppose to have big cats but this was the first one i'd seen....It was cool. Buy the way,,,,Thanks for the birthday wishes |

Skunked again today - headed out about 4:30pm, fished 'til 10pm. Worked my way about a mile down the shoreline, hit about 12 different spots, but nothing was taking.
I did see an 11-year-old catch a nice 16" largemouth on a worm and bobber, while I was across the channel trying to get my jitterbug out of a tree bass. |

I've been getting skunked regularly here, too. Was out Saturday morning from about 6 to 11 am only to have one dink largemouth shake loose my shallow crankbait. Water temps were 86 when I hit the water and by early afternoon had already started to climb up around 90. I tried the deep stuff, but barely have enough patience to stick with it. Yesterday I hit a small pond that I'm familiar with and was able to catch 6 dinks on a crankbait. It felt great to catch a fish again and build back a little bit of confidence.

Friday the pattern was 6-8' flats with weeds or brush close to a drop off. Most fish on the flats closest to 20+ deep water. Caught about 20 and broke two off. Water temp 86 degrees. When the water temp was in the 90s the bite was 12-15 feet in weed beds.
