Default Sinker Tip

Does anyone know how to dull the shine off of tungsten sinkers, using chemicals? Iv'e heard of it done before, just wondering what to use.

Thanks.

Try dunking them in a Coke. Works for lead sinkers. I don't know if it would work on tungsten. I always spray paint my sinkers flat black, but once again don't know if it would work on tungsten. I think if you just use them it will take care of itself..

I use toothpaste. It sounds crazy but have you seen what it does to car paint. It will take it off. I have found that having a flashy color on it brings the fish home but it depends on the fish and how agressive they are.

rough it up on a rock, or sandpaper.

You can get some Tru-Tungsten weights that are colored. Not cheap but the color won't come off.

paint them . you would think that if you are paying a $1.50 each for a sinker it would be painted a dull color..

If you want a color, try going over them with a Sharpie Permanent Marker....you will get a really nice metallic color going over the shine and they then will not be quite so bright. If you use the sandpaper as suggested and then a marker, you will have a low luster color you can use to match or contrast with the lure.
