Default Spincast Underspin Reels

Has anyone tried a Spincast Underspin Reel?... it looks like this

http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catal...rTarget=browse

Just wondering if those would be a good alternative to a Spinning Reel that might eliminate the Line Twisting problem.

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,

I have three of them and I purchased them years ago. Zebcos are all three and they work fabulously when I dust them off and go for some crappie or sunny's. All are on ultra light rods and are of ultralight in size to feel the fight of those smaller fish.

I just took a look at those underspins on BPS's page and I would pass if I were you unless you're just starting out and even then, I'd revert to a nice beginners reel of a less inexpensive Shimano or better. Put your money into something that offers smoother operation with at least 2 ball bearings. You'll be glad you did.

Just my nickels worth.

so most of them or maybe all are made for light fishing only... like Sunfish?

mostly, yes. I'm sure they could handle retrieving a larger fish but it would put a lot of strain on the gears, I'd think. Crappie and bream don't really put up as much of a fight as a 3lb bass would.

By the way, Bass are members of the sunfish family, too.
