I rarely us mono anymore, I've gone to copolymer lines due to their greater strength, abrasion resistance, thinner diameter per # test and less stretch. When I did, I liked the McCoy's mean green. Tried the Cajun Red - it was the worst mono I ever spooled. Memory was terrible on the 10# and 14#. BPS's Excel is pretty decent also and the price is very good. Trilene is good mono also. Mono has a lot of stretch, and I changed my line fairly often because of that. Mono has it uses, but I think today there are better options for many applications superior to mono.

Got it right.

Bama, ANDE is a german mono used mainly by saltwater guys. High break strength, tough, reasonably priced, just all around good. Round here, you can buy it at Walmart.....

I heard Wally World is drastically going to decrease what they carry in fishing supplies. Maybe this is why they are getting rid of current supplies. I know a lot of the stores are about to undergo some major interior renovations. We will see how that affects the fishing department but I think it is not going to be good.

I used to use Suffix almost exclusively up until last year when one of my partners suggested trying P-Line. That stuff is tough and performs extremely well. Knots and casting are no problem.

did I mention, Power Pro? Its a great alternative to mono and fluro. Stronger, thinner, no memory, very low visibility, and casts farther than all others. just don't pull it with your hands.......unless you're the kind of person that likes cutting themselves.

You are welcomed to fish Zimapán Lake in central Mexico with me whenever you want and there you will find that PowerPro ( which I also fish with ) isn´t THAT great, 50 pound gets cut like if were with shears in a blink with the kind of bottom composition you find there. Believe it or not nylon is a much better choice and stands the abuse. The guys that regularily fish places like EL Cuchillo discovered it the hard way when they fished that lake the first time.

Line just like hooks, baits, rods and reels are tools, choose the right tool for the job.

what type of cover is it? trees or rocks? I fish rodman (flooded forest) quite often with braid and rarely have a problem. course I've never fished braid in the rocks. however I have used it around oyster beds on the gulf coast and seemed to have better luck than mono or fluro. maybe its just the rigs I use with it???

Wow, so many different favorites for mono! I have mine too but they aren't too different than most of the folks on here. Trilene XT and XL, Suffix Elite, Mossy Oak (which is no longer being produced from what I can tell). I haven't tried Ande or Cajun Red, but I haven't really felt the need to either.
Robman Rob, I too love the Power Pro, but I have to admit that the rocks in north Georgia cut it like a razor blade.

Just to add. Ande has more IGFA records than any other line. In addition its one of the oldest line companys around.

What I like about them is that they dont under rate their line like other companys to make it seem stronger than it really is. An example of what I mean is calling line 20# test, but producing it at a diameter that equates to 25# test.

Rob, since your a braid junkie you need to try Diawa Samurai Braid. It's much better than Power Pro. It has a coating on it that helps it cast a mile. I use it for frogs mostly (55lb.) If you like Power Pro (which I don't) then you will love this stuff!
