Default Boat Reccomendations

My dad is thinking about taking the plunge into the boating world! We don’t know where to begin or what to look for! Looking for recommendations. Here is what we are thinking of give us your thoughts, recommendations, manufactures, etc.. Looking for a multi-purpose boat! Saltwater/freshwater?, Cabin?, Ft. Laurdale to Freeport (60 miles open sea)?, Length?, Beam?, Livewell?, Inboard/Outboard?, Radio?, GPS?, Fishfinder?, Options to know. What other questions should we be asking that we haven’t put here, And we are looking at Pre-Owned ONLY!

Thanks for your help ahead of time.

I'd get at least a 18 or 19 footer to start out, and a tandem axle on the trailer
We started about with a Glastron and then moved to a Ranger

any time you are moving on the open ocean use a gps. they are fairly cheap -under 200- i use a garmin etrek with down loadable maps. worth every single penny..

I would agree with what has been said already but would add that be sure that you buy a boat that not only fits your budget but has everything that you are lookin for. Being that said I would recommend a bay boat particularly a storm if your budget alows it. I do not own one but what I have read everyone that has one would not part with it. One other thing to keep in mind if this is your first purchase it might be wise to keep in mind how good are your boating skills. A true high performance boat is a different animal from a production boat and they take different driving skills. So to put in a nut shell dont buy a boat that you cant handle for your own saftey.

what is the purpose of the cabin? i dont think you should really buy a boat with a cabin unless you have the money. the only real reason you would need one is if you plan on being out for days at a time. but if your not gunna do that, i would save some money, and get one that doesnt have one.
