weighting of lures
what difference does weight make in a lure, besides castability. also, does placement of the lure matter so much? im looking to buy some lure weights for the lures im making from here http://www.lurehardware.com/Lure_Har...e_Weights.html
but the smallest is 2 grams. and most abits i see are around 1/2 gram. so im wondernig if it will matter. and if you have any better ideas, please tell me so i can make an order so i can make more baits, because i tried casting an unweighted balsa weight and it went perhaps 2 feet at most. these weights ont he site i posted have a line tie, but im thinking their diameter is so big that it would be hard to put into the nose, since the nose could be narrower than the weight. |

drill a hole the lengh of the bait and putt bbs in side so they move around it increases castibility and they also will find the area its self

cranky,
go back to Tackle Underground. One of the tutorials by Coley I think shows you how to do this. You can use pencil lead. Placement is important to ensure the a cb does not list to one side or the other, to aid in castibility as you already know, and also to adjust its bouyancy. If you add enough weight that you make its overall density the same as water, your bait should suspend like an X-Rap. If you add enough weight that you make the density more that the water, the bait will sink, as do Rapala Countdown minnows and lipless crankbaits. I hope you're getting a clearer picture. This is why I don't make CBs yet. There are so many factors to consider and I simply do not have the time to invest in learning this art yet. If you really wnat to make CBs, I would recommend gatting some of the wooden or plastic blanks from Stamina. I bought the black plastic ones. They will work out of the box and all you have to do is paint them, add eyes and hooks.

Before I paint baits I use split shots. Some I go into micro weights just so I can have a perfect balance.

fish on and islandbass thanks. i think ill try both methods and see which i like better. asskicker didnt find much good stuff on the web, just cutting a groove and putting in a weight but that would be off balance. ill go check tackle underground. cant afford some blanks though. i think the experimenting would be fun. if i had known about this earlier i would have chosen something luremaking related. this sounds pretty exciting
