Default New Spotted Bass Record in TN after 20 years

5lbs 14oz! Thought this was a cool story, although I've never heard of the lake and I live in Nashville.

Another difference between the spotted and the largemouth bass is their size. Spotted bass are considerably smaller, reaching a maximum of about 24 inches in length. The Georgia state record spotted bass came from Lake Lanier and weighed 8 lbs. 5 oz, but the average will be just a couple of pounds. The coloration of spotted bass s is very similar to that of the largemouth. The most noticeable difference is the addition of rows of black spots on the lower half of the side of the body. Factors such as the water clarity and depth that the fish has been living in can affect coloration making this a harder identification tool. The mouth of the spotted bass extends beyond the middle of the eye but not beyond the eye like the largemouth’s. The easiest characteristics to distinguish between the largemouth and the spotted bass are the size of the mouth and the appearance of the dorsal fin. The spotted bass has a dorsal fin that is clearly connected, while the largemouth appears to have two separate fins.

That should clear it up....

I had to look it up myself, but this gives a pretty good description of the differences.

Can you imagine what it must have felt like bringing in a 5 LB 14 oz Spot using only 6#test, wow! That alone amazes me!

What a great catch! I would have thought the TN record spotted bass would be bigger than that though. Alabama and California grow some giant spots.

And just because I love TN, here's another interesting read. Not a state record, but a new lake record and a monster smallmouth caught here last year..just a few minutes outside downtown Nashville.

Haha yeah, I would be trying to make a deal with the manufacturer...surely he could have gotten something out of the deal if he had talked them up real big in the paper.

On a serious note.
I can respect him for not doing that, at the time that was probably the last thing on his mind.

I'm guessing it would be all the reconition and the pride that goes along with having you name written down in the record books.

And maybe a lifetime supply of pink Helicopter Lures too. LOL
