Storing and Protecting Smaller Jigs
If you use small jigs and they tend to get tangled and mangled, kinked or otherwise mutilated, this may help.
Find some fat drinking straws......not only fat but transparent or translucent (foggy)......cut off a piece of straw about a quarter to half inch longer than the jig. Slit the straw with small straight scissors but stop short of the end about a quarter to 3/16 inch from the end. Slip the slitted straw over the head of the jig and slide it back until the eye of the jig hits the end of the slit.....this grooms the feathers, or hair, or silicone tentacles and keeps them in order. The eye and hook will both protrude from the straw but won't be apt to tangle with the others. The transparent or translucent straws enable you to see the colors of the jig for your convenience. I can tell on mine which are one solid color, which are two tones, having different colored capes, etc. etc. These jig keepers are great for float n fly jigs as well as a lot of my smaller rabbit hair jigs. For keeping larger jigs, you may have to find some larger thin walled tubing in order to accomodate the larger heads and weedguards. |
