Default getting the skinny on..

using a deep crank in shallow water.. i have been fishing the secert lake -again- i caught 7 bass an a insane brim all on the same bait. my pattern was laydowns now some of them were in 10-20 feet of water. but i was catching bass on this bait in 1-3 feet of water..i was also chunking a 400 poes.. this bait tends to fly longer than you would think.. and yes i am aware of how much it cost -i was using 20 pound mono for this reason- but the results are well see for your self

actually was NOT trying to catch the bass where the crank landed it barely moved and he loaded up on it.. my first thought was dam flathead.. i had to manuver the boat round a complete tree laydown to actually land him..

now this is a lucky craft cb d-12 it digs to about 14 feet with 12 pound mono.

never be afraid to chunk a deep diving crankbait. that d-12 will get about 14 feet with 8 pound mono i was using 20 pound mono. i was hitting in about 8 feet of water. unless you fish very weedy lakes. take note.. i would throw one any way-but this is just me-secret lake has some weed growth but i was targeting rocky banks with laydowns..by the way that bass weighed 6.9 pounds..

Zook - I have a Poe's 300 that I love to throw into shallow, clear water and watch bass crush it. I keep the rod tip up and pitch docks with it. Normally the bass will hit the bait in less than 3' of water. 20lb test is a must and I have a custom made cranking rod specifically made for this type of fishing. It's shorter than most cranking rods and I don't have to worry about busting the tip off around the docks on hook sets.
