Default giving an old crank bait a face lift..

how does one make a good bait into a great bait simple give it a face lift..
i started with a legendary 25 year old bagley b. the paint was chipped and faded from use. see below..

i sent it off to one of the BEST crankbait painters in the country. none other than carolina chip..chip is the ONLY person i would allow to repaint a truly outstanding crankbait. chip using my personal color choice -LOUD!!!- actually inhanced the bass catching ability of this bait ... sadly though i likly will not fish with it..after all it is 25 years old.

chip as always truley a outstanding paint job..

I'm not even going to bother with the compliments... Chip already knows I think every bait of his is just drop-jaw fantastic, so it is implied that I ove it

Send it to me I'll fish it LOL. He can paint more, no point in not using it, if it catches fish.

paint job wouldn't be the problem. losing a 25 year old bait would be.

Zook,
Are those "origional" Balsa B's, or are they the "new" type Balsa B's ?

The first thing I would do is put a smaller split rings on it, box it up and send it to Laser where my other Bagleys went to , because I know he would fish them. Alright I did keep 1 bait to fish, but it was my favorite, an original bulgin balsa B. P N J

Thanks Zook... Glad you liked it you really ought to fish it though... If you loose it, pick another up on ebay.... I dont think that lure will get lost... I think if they stick around more than 15 years, they are possessed by good fish spirts preventing loss!

I painted a new Kuba set for Ish this past week. Its on the custom lure forum... It's your mucky water colors I believe. I also redesigned the Woodhull into a shallow water bait.

Have a great weekend all!

I have the same crankbait in my "old" bait collection. Except mine has an orange spot on the bottom at the front hook and it doesn't have the writing on the bottom. When did Bagley's start printing the type of crankbait on the bottom?
I'd fish with mine but it is cracked in the center of the bill. One good fish and all I'd get back would be a split ring and a screw. I have two Killer B-1's with the writing on the bottom and those are at least 15 years old.

Um it's CHIP, not Chris rotfl. He does a great job. www.carolinachip.com However there is another gentleman on this site who I've never used. Dwain is from this site and I have heard nothing but praise about his work also. I've seen pics and he's artist in his own right. His link is in the top, "Batey's custom lures". I seem to lose my cranks before they get to old, or like 2 weekends ago I broke one in half hitting a bridge piling
