Most of the time, when fishing (not casting) I don;t have any fingers on the rear cork handle. And all but my little finger are above the trigger.

Nice looks better if you hold that rod that way, my thimp rests on the botton, and I only have two finger under the trigger most of the time!

Still looks great though!

Im sure it helps when you hold your rod in that fassion, I always cave the side of the reel in my palm, so i have at most my ring and little finger below the trigger, which means almost no contact with the rear grip, not to mention a lot of my rods have the new eva split grips.

I've done that on a couple of my rods, but I would never cut as deeply as in that picture. Its more of a targeted sanding on the right side where my fingers wrap around.

I still think the best modification is adding some weight to the back of the rod for tip-up applications. Even with my light Kistlers, I like to tinker.

My new experiment will be to purchase some lead tape and put some on rod between the split grip.
