G.Loomis NRX pics!
Apparently, pics are up of the new loomis rod! It's called the g.loomis NRX, Nano Resin "X."
Looks like a pretty cool rod to me. Half the guides will be recoil, the other.. I'm not sure. Not as bad of a price tag as I though either, many where expecting a price tag upwards of 500 bucks, these models though are apparently only 450 - 475! Yes, they do have a split grip. more info http://www.theoutdoorwire.com/story/...090tv4ch4t2zxf I Found this very interesting. "We use stiffer Fuji guides closest to the reel to offer more sensitivity transfer to the angler along with moving weight back to rods' butt section - plus also on the tip," said Rajeff, "and then REC black Ion-coated single foot guides that are extremely small and light so as not to impede casting and retrieve performance. Looking down the rod, it looks like the guides disappear off the blank." Now on the Loomis web sight http://www.gloomis.com/publish/conte...s_casting.html

I love my Loomis rods but hate the price...It's really hard to fish with anything else once you've experienced them. Thanks for the pics, now I have something else to wish I had but can't afford. haha

Only $475?! Put me down for a dozen!
I wish, lol. Can't wait to see more about these rods from TT, even if all I can do is dream about them... BB

lol I say only because I was expecting something like 550, or 600.
But hopefully the Nono resin will spark something like the IM6 did way back when graphite rods first hit the market. Hopefully we'll see a few more NR rods from other companies in a few years.

The whole blank isn't expoxied, just on the logos.
$475 is on par with other high end rods, considerably cheaper than some. I'm sure they will sell a ton of them. Nice find Sammy! |

Yea... I didn't look close enough... just looked like it was because of the glare off the rest of the blank... I don't think it's epoxied either looking more closely now.

If I send a letter to the company do you think they'll send me a few to try out for free ? I'll never say never, but I doubt I would ever fork over $475 for a rod. They look pretty sweet, though.

I love the looks of the dropshot rod it has a gap where you can feel the blank, but it is much bigger then what my crucial has...crazy expensive though plus I just bought a GLX.

Definitely not the same blank. G Loomis rods use Loomis blanks and Z-bone's use North Fork Composite blanks, which Gary Loomis founded after leaving G Loomis. G Loomis is owned by Shimano. Confused yet?

I'm sure they're nice rods...however, I have to add my two cents, as always.
Typical marketing techno-babble, designed to catch the starry-eyed fisherman. "Ion-coated"...I guess the term "anodized" isn't sexy enough any more. Using the stiffer guides on the part of the rod closer to the reel isn't going to help with sensitivity at all. Frankly, if the rod isn't at an angle to the line, all you're going to feel is the tug on the reel spool. And if it is at an angle to the line, 99% of the vibration transmission to the rod, and your hands, is going to come through the first couple of guides. IMHO, this is Loomis way of saying "we wanted to get the REC logo on our product, but only pay for half of the REC guides" They still charge $500 for the rod though... I think it is interesting that Loomis finally bowed to market pressure and made a split grip rod. I want to see Tackletour do a comparison between the St. Croix Legend Extreme and the NRX. I'm sure it will never happen.

Seriiously though, Joe is correct. G Loomis was sold in the mid 90's to Shimano. Gary Loomis left after that and has recently started making his own blanks with his new company North Fork Composites. The NFC blanks are what is used on Kistler's Z-Bone. BB

The Different guides are for...
By no means am I a G. Loomis guy - I can't afford them. But, I wanted to give you some insight that I got from the Loomis people.
When casting with a rod with all REC guides it makes a whistling noise. By G. Loomis switching out the REC guides with Fuji SIC guides they were able to eliminate that noise on the cast. The smaller more fragile guides are REC to add durability and lightness. There is a lot more about the rods on our website - click here to read about them G. Loomis NRX rods |
