Try www.shootingtimes.com

Go to the forums, you'll see the button on the black background right in the middle of the page.Search around, and post a question if you can't find what you're looking for. There's a lot of gun people on there, and many of them do their own wildcats. They'll point you in the right direction.

i shoot factory loads through my .308 and it has killed a ton of deer and several yotes as well. i only shoot winchester loads through it though because it handles their brass a lot better without jamming.

Not a Pro by no means but I Shoot Hornandy Match Ammo thru every rifle I have. Including a Savage Lawenforcement 308 and it groups for me as well as any hand load I ever shot.

but rig i think he is wanting to chunk a light load real far and end real bloody.

308 is a "wildcat round" that started back in the 60's..it become main stream in the late 80's when nato went with the round in there "issued" weapon..

the 308 rifle also known as the 7.62x51 nato round.bullet weights starts at about 100 grains and goes up to 240 grains.. i know for a fact that the light 100,110,125 grain bullets tend to buzzsaw out of the 308 rifle when shot long range-200+ yards-.

my opinion is start around 130 grains and see how the rifle likes the round..every gun shoots the same bullet differant.if your after alot of big game jump to the 165 grain bullet..

aka "orphan round" i load in my 30/30 this way... i use a 125gr soft point boat tail..a round that can punch 1.25" groups at 200 yards thru the winchester i own.. i have killed deer at 400 yards with it..

remember every part you use when building reload MUST be the same.. changing power brands, bullet weight, primer type, and powder weight. all will have an effect on the performance of the bullet..

i reload alot so i know how ever i don't reload the 308 round..

Zook, if you use the same brand powder, primer, and every thing else, will it being from different lots make a difference? Just curious, I'm thinking about getting set up to reload. I like taking my 40 cal to the range and new ammo is getting expensive.

I'm fortunate enuff to own a Browning BAR, the ALL-Belgian one, which was a gift from a grateful client. (He also gifted me with a custom-ordered LEFTY Weatherby Mk V in 300 Wby Mag but I much preferred the BAR.)
After exhaustive testing I determined that NO reload or any other factory load, offered the accuracy and consistency of Federal Premium 130 gr. ammo.
This semi-auto, slayer of innumerable deer and wild hogs over the years, has printed many 3-round 100-yard groups of under 1", some so tight as 1/2", but ONLY with the Federal Premium loads.
The runner-up was the top-of-the-line Remington load.
No less than five expert reloaders attempted to create loads that would match the performance of the Fed Preemy but all failed. As well, there were chambering and extraction issues with the custom loads UNLESS all brass was full-length resized. (exception: Brass from rounds fired in MY BAR needed only neck trimming, but still couldn't best the Fed stuff.)
A word of caution to those who own and shoot GAS-OPERATED semi-autos such as the BAR or Remington semi.; DO NOT shoot the "Extended range" ammo (usually a 140 gr. pill,) in them. When those came into the market I called Browning and was told that these rounds develop excessive temperatures that will damage the gas systems over time. One thing you DON'T need is a blowout due to heat erosion in the gas tube.

PS: My Belgian beauty sports a compact Leupold Series II 2.5x8 variable on Redfield mounts. I like the compactness of that scope since I prefer to stalk when safe to do so. She's battle worn but by no means weary.

Meester Pee,

This is the sporting model, not the famous military version, just to make things clear. It's a five-round INTERNAL (though detachable) 'zine weapon and I assure you there is no auto selector nor, thank Zeus, does it weigh so much at the military model. Besides, the M1918A1 BAR was never chambered for the wonderful .270 Winchester round (Mine is.), developed back in the 1920s by the late and very great Jack O'Connor.
I omitted mention of the caliber in my previous post, sorry.
Here're the latest iterations of the weapon. (MY baby was built in Belgium circa 1974.)

Luv dat BAR!

Thank you kindly sir. I think I'll head out to Gander Mt tomorrow and take a gander at their equipment.

I bet that's fun zook. I live 5 minute from ft, Bragg so I hear plenty of boom though. It's not so bad anymore. When I was growing up we couldn't hang pictures on the walls and had to put cloth between the dishes to keep them from cracking when the house rattled.

I'm just glad I don't live closer to the range, they've been known to miss their target and hit a house or two.
