What do you think for topwater
I stopped by Gander Mt. today. They had a few St Croix's Legend Tournaments and Avids for sale. I have been looking for a topwater rod and I picked up a Legend 6ft 6in med power, fast action. The rod is for jerkbaits but was hoping it would be ok for spooks, wake baits etc. Would it be alright for those type baits? If not I do fish jerkbaits and for $149.00 I got a good deal.

I use about the same rod for the big spook, you'll be fine!

Depending on your hieght, you may want a shorter rod for topwaters. I'm short, so I am getting a shorter rod for topwaters.

I'm not sure whether you're talking spinning or baitcasting, but I use 6'6" spinning rods in M power and fast action with a variety of topwaters lures.

when you're on the deck of a boat the longer rods don't usually hit the water on the down swing. However most of the time I keep the rod tip straight up for a spook at first, then go right into the 4 o clock rod position for the
action i want the rod to make. If you are bank fishing, I think you will be ok, i started with a 5 ft 8 med shimano rod for jerkbaits and liked it for the simple reason it didn't hit the water, but about 10 years ago when to the longer rod for jerbaits/top waters |

Bobby,Congratulations, You scored. That sounds like an awesome rod.I would have difficulty limiting it to just a topwaters. That rod is much more than a basic topwater rod. P N J

Bob, I'd say that rod will work just fine.
