Default Catfish Potomac

The wife and I went out a wee bit late today. Missed the morning bite and launched at 11:30 am. The river was angry will waves from every direction as boaters zoomed this way and that in huge go-fasts and giants offshore boats. It seems that MR Corona w/lime showed up last night along with some old friends so I was not getting up early like planned.

Back to the fishing.. cast net yielded two bluegill and a carp. Arm hurting we set up duel anchors in a likely spot. Tail hooked the bluegill w/ a 9/0 circle hook and tossed him out. Before I could get the second rod out it got a hit and peeled half the spool out before I could click the baitrunner over. Hooked up I passed a very big fish on to my wife while I worked on a clearing the deck for big fish. She fought the fish like a pro for many long minutes. It got about ten feet out and came unbuttoned.. DARN never did see it either.

Many small cats up to about 20 lbs but no big ones today because of Mr Corona..

No cats today only bass up to 3.5lbs. Very tough day on the river for us with very few bites. Finished with 5 that weighed 10.90 lbs. Thought I had a couple good spots that were holding numbers but not today.

Dang! What do you consider a big one? My personal best was a 15 pounder I caught right inside the Wilson bridge in Alexandria.
I live in Georgia now, where they're supposed to grow them big, but I haven't caught any large ones yet. My fishing buddy called me the other night bragging on the 7 pounder he caught, I said big deal, we can catch them that size in the tidal Potomac all day long! I know there are some large ones in the tidal Potomac, what's the largest to come out of there?

You want big catfish? Fish rivers with strong currant. 20lb'ers are small in comparison... not sure about the Potomac record, but over in Thailand a 646lb'er was caught.

See: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/n...fishgiant.html

For the U.S., a blue catfish went over 100lbs.
