Default could not wait on rod

I was going to order a powell 733 for soft plastics but we are going fishing in the morning so I had to get me a rod local, I ended up getting the St Croix Premier 7ft MH action PC70MHF. I hope this will be a good rod for soft plastics, Please let me know what you think, I also got a good deal on it. going to put 15lb test invizX on it does that sound about right?

Congrats! I reckon that bottom line it really doesn't matter what we think because you're the one who will be fishing with it and opinions are like bad breath anyway.

Yup that's a good rod, seems to be a pretty popular one here too! I've gotta 7' M spinning, and like it a lot. Never used a casting model, but I'm sure you'll like. However I do think the powell would've been better.. probably a tad more sensitive, but I've never used a powell, so I can't really say. lol

I have this same rod, the build quality of St. Croix is as good as any of the other rods in its same price range, probably a little better even. These rods tend to fish on the heavy side of MH and have good back bone. These rods are built on the St. Croix SCII blank, as well as the Triumph and the Mojo series of rods. IMHO they lack a little in sensitivity, but if fished with fluorocarbon or braid, they make a versatile rod that can be used for several techniques including soft plastics.

Will this rod be good for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits as well?

Yup I think it'll definitely do well for that. My preference in a slightly shorter rod however for spinnerbaits.

I have that exact same rod and use it as my main jig rod. It's not the lightest rod but a very good all around rod and like Tavery said it has plenty of backbone. I have 15# or 17# fluoro on it, I can't remember. I bought mine because I was traveling and needed a rod to use, but now I use it all the time.

I think you'll like that rod. I have a couple StCroixs myself and couldn't be happier with them.
