Plastic worms, to peg or not to peg?
I'm willing to bet money if you asked 100 bass fisherman whether they peg their worm weights or not, you'll get a 50/50 split in responces. So I thought I would start this post. Do you peg your worm weights or not, and why? I usually do peg mine especially when fishing around brush and other areas with snags. However when crawling the worm accross the lakes floor I can see an advantage to not pegging as this would allow the bass to suck in the worm and swim off without the being detected as easily.

Depends on the situation, I will.... While pitching and flipping or when casting around brush where it is important for the weight and the plastic not to sepearte I will peg the weight. However while searching out fish, or covering alot of water (casting across points or just around some sparse cover, I will leave them unpegged.
I guess I am 50/50 on the decision!! Ryan

Nah, I prefer either weightless texas rig, or will even use a weighted swimbait hook texas rigged... If I run wacky then it always goes weightless

Unpegged mostly, every now and then I'll peg them in heavy cover. But probably 95% unpegged.

I was actually thinking about asking the same question, Keithdog. Good topic. As for me I usually peg mine. I feel like it gives me more control over the fall of the lure, and I just have more confidence with the weight pegged; I don't know why. I don't really see the advantage of leaving the weight unpegged. I only see the advantages pegging the weight. That's just my opinion.

I like to peg more often than not. Especially in water deeper than 5 or 6 feet. Unless I'm flipping I always use pegged.

I like to peg them if I am keeping them on bottom and slow fishing. If I speed up in just brush the bottom, I don't peg them.

Always peg in grass, Hydrilla, Coon tail and Skipping boat docks ...etc.
Never peg in most other situations.

I peg them when ever I can, and that's when (I have small enough toothpicks! But most of the time I don't, just because I don't always have toothpicks. But I just have more confidence in it!

Worms - never peg. If I'm flipping or pitching I don't use worms.

I've never pegged mine, but ive been considering it and bumping up weight size to get a little bit faster fall for clear water.

I buy those little rubber weight peg things, I don't like using toothpicks. I only peg my weights when fishing heavy cover, punching or fishing heavy grass. Any other time I think it's beneficial for the weight to separate from the bait some. It allows the bait to hover off the bottom and fall more slowly, even if only for a few seconds.

Ok, i have been reading that some of you peg when in heavy grass, Do you do this on top of having it weighted with a c-rig or texas rigged set up? This is making me wonder if the fall is better without a weight, and just pegged.

I never peg a c-rig. I usually peg a t-rig in heavy brush to lessen my hangups. I usually don't peg when I am fishing ledges unless it is a lot of brush that I am around.

I fish weightless soft plastics a lot. They work great around grass, the slow fall is great and they are mostly weedless. The reason to peg is to keep a weight from sliding up the line and getting tangled or bunched up with grass, wrapped around limbs etc... you peg the weight to the bait. I never peg a c-rig and with weightless baits you have no weight to peg.

Only when i pitch or flip, which is almost never. I throw a t-rig a lot around open water, definitely in ponds and dont peg it. I might peg it once or twice now in open water to see if their is any difference.

I peg when fishing heavy cover to lessen the chance of hang ups. Most of the time though I fish weightless....I like the slower fall.....seldom fish worms t-rigged in deeper water though I can see where not pegging in such situations would make sense.

I never peg, not a huge deal to me. I fish worms very often and never have problems with it unpegged.

Lemme add one thing to my other post. I don't peg weights when I'm fishing small 4" rigged worm. I always leave them unpegged then!
