Default carolina rig question

I just started using the c-rig last summer. I used a 4-5 ft leader. Should I
use the same length this spring or go shorter? Thanks for any help.

You can of course try other lengths to see if they produce any better results. I usually go with about 3 to 4 feet of leader.

rule of thumb with a carolina rig.. 18" leader till about the 4th of july then move to a 36" leader.. longer and the hook set percentage comes way down..

plus even with a flipping stick, any leader that is near 4 ft long makes fora longgg day of casting that without catching the leader on the boat or a partner rofl

I definately hear you on that one JB. 4feet of dangling line makes for an interesting time in a small boat.

I use it usually 18"-24" as a standard. Now if throwing a crankbait on it, then I will lengthen it to 3'-4'.

Water clarity and depth are the biggest factors when considering leader length on your Carolina Rig. As stated early a good rule of thumb is about 18-24". Stained and murky water I'll use 12-18" as well as in the shallows (5-10'). In deeper water especially those that are clear, I'll use 24-36" leaders. Experiment until you find what your comfortable with and always keep in mind that the fish will let you know what they want.

Thanks for the info. You know, I have been bass fishing for over 30 years and I still cannot catch fish on a c-rig! I taught my son-in-law how to bass fish about a year ago and he kills them on a c-rig. I guess it is all about confidence.
