Zooke- C Bird
I'm throwing this out to you two. I'm looking to git me a RatRod fur the up comming bass season. We have lots of them critters down in the barn and ole Butch keeps bringen em in live. So I figur if I get a good stout RatRod rod and throw these little basturds out on the lilly pads, let them run til bigmouth strikes, i think I can catch sum bass. But I neede a good a good stout rod. What do you purfur.
Length Action Wt Reel? Thanks Anybody feel free to weigh in on this, your suggestions will be highly appreciated. Carpy Last edited by CarpMan; 02-29-08 at 09:07 AM. |

Carpy, Rats anit within my realm of fishability.Zookers probably got a surefire answer for you though.I caint wait to hear it either. For a harness go to the pet shop and look at a Shih Tzu harness.I was thinking a Chihuahua would be too small for a barn rat size unless ol Butch is catching babies .

well carpy
i would start at least a 7 foot heavy action rod with a fast tip.20 pound braid at least spooled on a fast 6.2, 6.3 gear ratioed reel.. all you need is to remember to set the hook hard and heavy once you feel the fish. as for barn rats i think a 270 would be the best choice anything smaller would just annoy them.. zooker

I took a 9mm after one here last fall and all I done was pierced his ear and knocked a rear foot off from him ? Now I can't bring myself to shoot at him no more. The wife named him "I hop" and he stays outside and eats with the 2 black labs , got his own dish and everything.I don't know what I was thinking, it was them 30 round clips,I got trigger happy and forgot to aim. I don't care who you are, that's funny chit right there. And dats why I wanted you two to work on this fur me. Your 9mm and Zooks 270! Dam, all i'm wantun is a good Ratrod. Polly done gone down there with a two barrell shotgun and shot my barn full of holes trying to shoot them pesky little chits, tha barn anit gonna stand tomany more shots. I figured at least if ole Butch could catch um alive and bring um to me, i could put um on a hook and make good use out of um, and just maybe cath sum lunkers off off them lilly pads down at tha pond. Ive got some good steel mesh cloves that polly uses when she snappin turtle hunts. I think polly would have fun tying those rats on fur me. she loves a challenge

Zooker, since you is nearly a rat fishin expert I wonder if it would benefit Polly to use rock salt reloaded shotshells. Some where I read that all your best bass baits got salt added to them ?Wait a minute now they are adding coffee to bass baits.Maybe a double shot of Expresso is in order ?
Sincerely confused, C-Bird Peck.

I've seen them running along the shore and swimming on the river but never seen a bass eat one.

Carpy, Maybe you should think about a paint ball gun. They say different colors work better on certain days due to the light conditions.C-Bird chirp

c-bird chirp, i like this rendition of your shallow crank critter, but what I really want is to keep them alive , throw them in some lilly pads and let them lil basturd swim or get sucked into momma bassess bucket mouth. I mean, afterall, I gotta barn full of them lil critters and they bout to drive ole butch nuts. Ole' Butch is gettin lonesome here on the farm, Polly wunts to get him a little pussyyyyyy cat to play with, but I don't trust that sum beach with another cat after what he done did to Elmer and all his hangy downs. Nahh, he's better off chasing them dang rats.

Dangit! That's settles it. Thanks adam. Gonna get ma one of them big ole surf rods and convert it to a ratrod. If them drum can make a meal out of a swamp rat like that, just think what a big mouth will do to these "barn varmits" runnin' across them lilly pads with a 4.0 gammy tied to his leg. What a picture. Now if if I can get Polly to tie these things on for me with out loosing her finger, I think we can catch a Snow hollow record LM. Carpy
