Got a few question rolled in to one big one

First off new to the forum glad to be here

1 I have a 12/24 Johnson Trolling motor that's broke should i fix it if it can and how much would it cost you think

2 If i have to update I want to switch to a bow mounted hand controlled unit and need recomendations

3 Boat is a 1994 Stratos XL 285 with Johnson 150

WELCOME TENN.--MY 12/24 Johnson is finally wearing out so I'm the look out also. Those old Johnson trolling motors last for ever, mine is a 1994 also. I'm looking at a MG 71lb trust foot controlled, waiting till the BPS spring fishing show when they always go on sale.

when you upgrade trust me on this get a removalable troller mounting bracket .. hook this to your upgrade.. it will cause a ton less headaches in the future..omc were bought out by minnkota..

Tennessee, Welcome aboard.
imo It would be time to make the upgrade. Since the fishin seems to be really slow or at a complete stop for most of us, I would rather replace it now, rather than later when the fishing is good. Our time on the water is already limited, so then to avoid anymore lost time...

welcome to the house of nuts and bait monkey fodder pal. take zookers advice on the removeable mount thingy,lol. and woody is right as well, replace it now so you can get used to it before the spring frenzy.

Welcome Tennesse. I agree withthe above guys it is a good time to upgrade.And as a rule of thumb when looking for a new trolling motor is is an excellent idea to get the biggest one you can afford. whatever that might be. I never heard anyone complain about a trolling motor doing more than they want it to.

Agree here and if you go to small you will not be happy..I have a 101 lbs for a back up when my motorguide brute bites the dust..Off course i will have to add another battery.I have hand control with the procon handle and love this setup...I would reccomend using a hand control for awhile on someone elses boat before choosing.They are not for everyone.
