Default Another Friday Afternoon at the Reservoir

After an 8 AM chemistry lecture followed by a four hour chemistry lab, going fishing has been the best part of my past few Fridays. So I hit up the local reservoir again today.

Today, the weather was gorgeous, overcast and not quite 60*. With the light wind, it was perfect spinnerbait weather. However, I hadn't brought my spinnerbaits. So I tied on a crankbait and after a few casts, I noticed the H2O square bill was missing it's bill... Apparently, I'm tough on crankbaits.

My H2O pretending to be a Rapala DT.

After a while, I looked in the back cup holder of my truck to find ONE spinnerbait (see, being to lazy to put them away pays off once in while!). a 3/16oz SK KVD Series in Bluegill. I personally would have preferred a Sexy Shad, but it would have to do. After a while of not getting anything on it, I had my first backlash for the day. After picking it out and reeling up the slack, I swept the rod up to get the spinnerbait off the bottom and felt it in the weeds. I reeled down and snapped my rod up to get the weeds off, only to realize I had just set the hook on a fish.

Got him in just as the only other guy there was driving right by me. perfect timing, lol. While talking to him, I forgot to snap a pic.

Not long after, the wind completely died and the sun came out... no more spinnerbaits, lol. Switched over to a t-rigged worm. The Junebug Trigger-X worms from my Secret Santa in July. I hooked up with one fish one of those before I had to go.

More then anything, it feels good to get out and relax after a long week of school. But catching a couple fish is even better!

Glad you were able to get out fishing to relax a bit, and catching some while you're at it is always a bonus. Well done, BB!

Sounds like a good day to me! I know what you mean about these long weeks of school, we are only a month into the semester, and it is starting to get to me. If I didn't have Wednesday morining's off to go out and beat up on some Lake Erie bronze, I don't know what I would do. God help me, I am going to really be felling it this winter! BPS in Rossford will be sick of me!

Glad you got out and caught a few fish. My dad had an H20 crankbait lose a bill too. I can't remember what model it was but his and yours are the only two I have heard of doing that and as many of their baits as we use I guess that is acceptable once in a while.

I can't think of a better way to relax and unwind than an outting on the water. Hooking up with a couple fish is like icing on the cake. By the way, don't give up on the spinnerbait when the wind dies down. I catch fish on spinnerbaits when the water is smooth as glass all the time. But I might downsize my offering from 3/8 1/4 oz at times.

I kinda figured it was fluke (unlike the Rapala DTs, which I've broken about 4 out the like 12-14 I have). Now I know I'm rough on cranks, broken quite a few... on the side of the boat, on rocks, etc. This one actually broke as I slapped it on the water to clear the weeds off as I occasionally do when I'm too lazy to pick a couple strands off.

I'll give it a try and keep throwing it next time. The main reason I switched is because spinnerbaits aren't one of my top confidence baits to begin with, add in the color and size of the only one I had and when "ideal" spinnerbait conditions weren't there, I had much more confidence throwing a t-rig or even a crankbait.

I've broken my fair share of crankbaits too. Usually smacking them off the side of the boat.

I glad you were able to get out for some fishing, Anthony.
