Default How many lures have you lost?

Ah I lost my very first lure today, just because I didn't tight my knot enough, and I lost my Rat-L-Trap, which made me sad. Anyways, back to the point, how lures have you lost in your lifetime of fishing?

6+the question should be how many lures have you actually gone in swimming for? I know I have gone in for some customs.

ROBZILLA, how do you go swimming for lures that won't float, but instead sink like lead? I know I would need goggles even though I swim for a sport!

if you fish the creeks off the ohio river, loosing stuff is a way of life, because where you throw in to shallow for any boat to get to, spinnerbaits are esp. easy to loose..
I always hate to see any crankbait or lure go flying and then note that the knot came undone, also always run your fingers over the line to check for knicks and cuts on your line, if you find one cut the line and retie.

too many to be aware of but earlier today i lost a carolina rig and i almost lost my popper i made, it broke off but after about half an hour of precision casting to the log it was on i got it back, if i knew how to swim good and it wasn't ballz azz cold out i would have gone in for it considering it was in maybe 7 ft of water

I would have swam for that lure (ratltrap) but I dunno how deep my pond is, and I feel insecure when I swim in a body of water that isn't common to me, and I can't see in it. I cast it into the middle of my pond (but it's about an acre). If I can't see in the water, forget about it.

well ill swim in a pool but the thing i dont like about lakes is you could be in 3 ft of water and the next step could be 15 ft. i wont wade if i cant see bottom.

I don't like the feeling that fish are surrounding me while I retrieve my lure, and that weeds are all slippery, and drop offs scare me as well. I can't believe I won't go swimming in a pond but I swim for a team...

I havent lost enough. I think that if you're afraid to throw to where the fish are, then you'll never catch them. Thats why accurate casting is so important to me. If you have a boat, you can get most back.

I don't have a boat, and when I lost my lure, I didn't lose it by fish, I lost it because my knot on my line wasn't tight enough, it loosened up, and FLUNG my lure across the pond.

I've lost about 15 so far. I lose a lot of lures. Fishing lake michigan when the lakes are frozen...too many rocks.

I've only gone swimming for one, and I pretty much learned my lesson.
I live about 2 miles away from a zebra mussel infested lake. That's the lake I normally fish at. There is like this wierd carpet that goes along the shorline. I got it snagged there and went into the water with my bare feet. I came out of the water with super bloody cut up feet and couldn't walk for the next two days. I had to borrow my dad's old crutches Really Sucked.

Today I was fishing at lake michigan. I had lost a nice crankbait exactly one week ago. I saw this little orange spot in the water, so I casted at it. Sure enough, there is my nice crankbait.

I have lost hundreds of dollars worth of lures. It happens no matter how hard you try. Make sure your knots are good. When in doubt, retie the knot.

The secret to getting a lot of lures out, (considering I have never used those lure removal things), is to put your hand on the spool so your drag can't pull. Then, you pull as slow as possible stright away from the lure, almost like you are trying to break it off, but extremely slow. I have pulled huge branches up, bent worm hooks that were stuck on rocks, and get back almost all of my lures with this technique using 10 pound test. If your lure is hung up on a rock, you probably won't get it, but you will get most others.

Nah I just lost my lure because I didn't tighten my line, but that is a good method because I was really frustrated a few days ago when my countdown was jammed between some foreign object in the water. Thanks for that tip as well!

when i get hung up, I hold the drag so it isnt going, like island said, and slowly pull back while jerking up and down. I have gotten ALOT of lures back this way.

What if your lure is stuck inside a rock with a hole (just asking) and that hole is basically a crack, and your treble hook gets stuck in that?

Very rarely do I go and not bust off at least one. Often they are soft plastics, but I lose a fair number of cranks, too. Like Zooker says, they make more. That's also the reason I usually buy at least 2 of every bait I get. Besides, if you aren't getting hung up occasionally you aren't fishing in the right place .

Well I hope to lose fewer this year because I got a lure retriever. I usually loose a ton of buzzbaits in the pads. I do use braid but the pads I fish are impossible to get my boat back into without disturbing the fishing. The better I get with bait casting the fewer I'll sail into trees too.
