Here is a way to dye your hooks red. Use Dykem steel red layout fluid. It works well to dye hooks or re-dye hooks that the red has worn off. PM me if you would like a source for the dye

Do you believe that the red hooks work or do you just use them in specific situations?

I've used red hooks on and off and I've never seen a single instance where they worked better then a regular unpainted hook. However, red hooks do continue to catch fishermen not on their guard. BTW, rumor has it that it's the bait monkey doing the casting.

I havn't seen any situation where red hooks made any difference either.

I have never been a red hook guy. It is the first color of the spectrum to disappear in water, so after about 5 feet, it is going to look grey anyway.

yeah i always found it was just another stunt to catch fishermen.... like they say: tackle is made to catch fishermen, fishermen catch fish, then why do i have a 21 foot tackle box?

I've used red hooks on brush hogs, and with un-painted hooks. I've seen no difference, and like jcw said, they're cheep and seem to be GOOD hooks. It's more of a matter of confidence than effectiveness IMO.

Personally, I feel that there is, at times, a difference. Have you guys tried using them on reaction baits? I've done a lot of experiments when the fish were really aggressive with baits like spooks, ripbaits, rattlebaits, etc...
With the spook I have moved the red hook around on the bait and no matter where I put it, that is the hook in their mouth! Its awesome! You can literally control HOW you hook the fish, not just IF you hook them. I'm suprised I'm the only one who has experienced this.

I have a spook where I replaced the hooks with red hooks and did not notice a difference myself. I could see where is affected a fish that was investigating the bait but I have not experienced it.

Why have a crank bait with a red bottom and brass hooks. Color works otherwise all baits would be one color.

I don't like them. Didn't see any difference in strike ratio and the red color comes off the hooks way too easily. I think it was just a ruse to sell more hooks, because hook replacement is much more frequent than with the black nickle hooks.

This is just a thought I had about the idea of using red hooks to attract bass, imo the hooks would be the part of the lure that I would NOT want the BASS noticing, that's just my opinion anyways.
