ROFL...that would have never worked with me. I never once took a whoopin willingly. I would have just run off. I'm just hard-headed. In fact, my step-dad moved out when I turned 15 and hit 6 feet tall. He couldn't handle me anymore LOL.

Not to make you think I was a bad kid. I was a good kid, for the most part...good grades, not mean or violent. He was a bad, abusive step-dad. And there is nothing a bully hates more than a righteous, defiant S.O.B. who has grown big enough to take care of himself and dish out some licks for a change. Man...I still remember the shock on that guy's face the first time he tried to smack me and I punched him square in the mouth. It was sort of like "uh oh...I think things have changed..."

He departed the homestead not long afterwards lol.

Lesson here? Punish, but don't beat up your kids. They may outgrow you.

Ehhhh...when you're 8, you're pretty much stuck with it. Besides, with my dad, runnin off woulda made things worse. Better to get it over with

Oh, it made things worse with my step-dad too. I still fought it every step of the way. He was one of those guys who marries a single mom and then thinks he's gonna teach her unruly kids some discipline. As if. I take great pride in having broken that man's will at the age of 15. If he had been a good guy, trust me, I would have been more receptive, but even a young kid knows a jerk when he meets one.

He once asked me if I thought I could keep from lying to him any more. I told him, "No", not because of any specific desire to lie to him, but so he wouldn't have the satisfaction of winning our little test of wills. Oh well, after that, I never got to go fishing with him and his buddies again rofl.

My son is good size too (thank goodness he never give us any problems and still don't at 28yrs old ), but early on I taught him the "SNICKERS RULE" if he gets any ideas he best go get a snickers bar because it's going to take all day. I'm just so glad he believed me.

i do remember a razor strop and a lenth of rope with a knot in it,right well...

i belive there is the differance between an azz whoopin and abuse...

but look at me an ex addict,ex drunkard, with a colorful past...

Amen to that , dude I gave my parents a hell of ride through my teenage years between drugs and partying , to this day i am amazed at how much they put up with before they threw me out . and that is the un colorful part of my past .

I hear ya there, Zook.

Man, I'm lucky...I was rebellious enough to figure it out...Dad isn't supposed to bash your face in. He's the one with the problem...not you. I feel bad for the kids who are too deep in the forest to see the trees. They grow up thinking it's normal for your parents to beat you up.

A little whoopin never hurt anyone. Heck, we can even laugh about it now. But black eyes, busted lips, and bruised ribs sort of terminate the parent/child relationship.
