cassidtya, can you share some of the ways you fish the bluegill? Do you have any luck on colored water as most of the lakes I fish are stainned somewhat.

Did you get the hard bodied or the soft bodied models? I ask because I fish both differently.
On the soft bodied version, I prefer to give it a lot of deadstick time. The bait is designed to sit nose down on the bottom. I like to burn it about ten yards on the initial cast and then give it very subtle twitches until it hits the bottom. Once it sits on the bottom, I will often let it remain there for 1-2 minutes before giving it very slight tugs. I prefer this bait when I know the fish are either guarding beds or in the 10-15 foot range. Most strikes will come on the first twitch after the deadstick. I have also had massive strikes while the bait rested on the bottom.

On the hard bodied, I prefer the slow sinker. On initial cast, I will twitch it like a jerk bait. For this bait, I will bring it up to the top to wake and then slow my retrieval so that it falls 2-3 foot. I let it fall without any added action from me, but after the fall, I give a hard pull on it to simulate a fish struggling to get away. I throw this presentation anywhere I consider a good ambush spot. I will usually bring the bait 2 foot off of the laydown, dock, tullies, etc.

I also have the hard bodied floater. I fish it like I would any other wake bait, but will I usually lift the rod tip more to bring the nose out of the water. This is one of my favorate baits when the fry are seen on the edges of the weeds.

I have not yet found a water clarity in which these baits don't work. They have been most effective in water that is slightly stained. But they have caught fish for me in gin clear and chocolate water as well.

Waster of money-The couple Luckycraft cranks I bought, The Bomber cranks I paid $2.50 for at gander provided just as many catches.

Some of you may think I'm crazy, but the best cheap lure I've ever bought was the good old classic H&H spinnerbait. At only a buck fifty a piece, I don't really mind losing them but they catch a boatload of fish especially out here in these little farm ponds that I fish in.

The one I regret paying the most for was some kind of popper I bought at Sportsmans warehouse, 30 bucks and I haven't seen the first bite with it. I feel like the biggest idiot when I open my crankbait bag and that piece of crap is staring me in the face

I hate the BPS suspending minnows. Those things DO NOT SUSPEND. I bought a pack of 8 at BPS all sink like a brick. I've fished them in winter and summer, clear and muddy, mono, braid, heavy line, light line. If I only bought one and it did it, I'd chalk it up as a defect, but all of mine sink right to the bottom. Not just a slow and gradual sink like most "suspending" jerkbaits, but they sink like a Rapala Countdown....
Best bang for the buck, I'd have to go with the Bandit cb's. Not expensive, always run true, tons of colors, paint is durable, they always catch fish, you can get them in every depth you need. BTW, thanks Zooker for turning me on to the bandits. I never fished em before you told me about them, and now I have about 20 of em.
