Questions
Do you guys fish spinnerbaits with braid?
Do those $1.00 spinnerbaits from Wal-Mart work well for you? Do you like those Culprit Worms? |

Yes, Yes, Yes.
Using braid with a spinnerbait lets you feel everything, which I like. Spinnerbaits are one fishing item where brand names don't really pay. Pick a skirt and blade pattern you like, and you're good to go. Culprits are very good worms. One thing I find makes them better is some scent in their bag, as they are generally a dryer worm.

It's better, but walmart spinnerbaits work just fine for me 99 times out of 100.

I guarantee you that a better spinnerbait will get more bites in a tournament.....you have to pick the blade combo out to get the most out of your spinnerbait but the right size and one with a better skirt...will get more bites!

yes yes yes again lol. I dont use it much, but braid is good for spinnerbaits. I buy the Booyah spinnerbaits most of the time, but walmart spinnerbaits have come through for me many times. But, do NOT buy the walmart buzzbaits, the blade will get stuck everycast, and its not worth it trust me.

They actually made the heads on the Wal-Mart ones with eyes this year. So they look cooler, they just seem to need tuning ever time I get 'em.

I really dont like the newer walmart spinnerbaits as much as the old ones. The old ones had heavy heads, these new ones are very thin and light and have a tendency to roll over in my experience. Plus there are some spinnerbaits that I just plain like better.
I do use braid, I like the feel, especially being able to feel the full thumping of the blades.

I use Culprit 10" and 12" only. Mocassin, purpleshad, redshad. 1/8th oz. sinker 10' of water or less. 3/8th oz. deeper. Hits on 12" are more like thump thump.

Welcome to the forum Bob60! Jools, personally i like any spinnerbait that has a good, sharp hook,a ball-bearing swivel, and that is cheap. I like the Uncle ?Bucks spinnerbaits from Bass Pro,they a like $2.50 and they work really good. I use mono for spinnerbaiting, but thats just me. I like the culprit worms but i fish with Zoom and Berkely Power Worms mostly. Just make sure to add some scent,no matter what soft plastic ait you use.

You hit the nail on the head there Texas. I have a couple of the $1 buzzbaits and it happens about half of the time. If you don't start reeling before it hits the water, you might as well be throwing a bare hook 'cause you won't catch anything.

No, used to and yes.
Walmart buzzbats: If the blade sticks, see if the wire is slightly bent and if so, straighten it. If not, unbend the wire, pull off the rivet, remove the blade. Get a drill with a bit just slightly larger than the hole, drill the hole out and reasssemble. Sticking prolem solved. Waddya expect for $1.00 ?

I don't use braid for spinnerbaits and baits that you keep moving alot like crankbaits. When you get a hit with a spinnerbait while using braid there is no stretch and it can rip the bait out of the fish's mouth. If you're using mono it will stretch a little and let the fish get a hold on it before you set the hook. Alot of times fish short strike spinnerbaits anyways. You can feel everything with mono and a good sensitive rod.

the problem with cheap buzzbaits is that they are missing a bead, or rivet deflector that causes the blade to get stuck on any vegetation or the first bend in the wire..Look at your quality buzzbaits, they always have either a cone shape defector or a rivet up front...I carry extra rivets in my tackle box to replace after wearing out a good buzzbait. I have some of the same flat bottom lead buzzbaits for years .
