Motorguides
I would like to hear your thoughts and experiences on Motorguide trolling motors. BPS has one on sale, but the reviews are bad. I trust you guys.

my fishing partner put one on his 18' ranger and it will pull that boat so fast that you cant turn it. so i do know that they have a lot of power.

I'm on my third-upgrades, not problems-and have been pleased. Motorguide/Minnkota is in the Ford/Chevy category-some swear by them, some swear at them.

I've got a Motorguide and I love it. So much so that if I ever need to upgrade from what I have, I can promise you I will first look at Motorguide

i don't own one, i own a minnkota so take this for what it's worth. but i have 3 buddies that all have the motorguide digital trolling motors and so far all of them have had some kind of problems. they do have a lot of power and are quite, and i know that they can't all be bad or nobody would buy a second one so this was probably just a freak thing.

I had a 30 lb thrust motor on a lightweight 14 foot deep v, it worked very well and was much lighter than the equivalent MinnKota.

i have a motorguide right now, no problem as far as durability. my problem is mine is too small of a thrust power. it is a 56#, need and want and hopefully gonna get a 80+ thruster. that and get some better batteries, got wally world batteries now.

I saw the MK has better reviews, but the bait monkey pointed out that the MG was on sale $170.00 off. THANKS GUYS.
I was going to use my old OMC one more year, but I've got some real redneck tech. slapped on it. If you saw it you would laugh me plum off this site.

I don't think I got duct tape on it YET, but I got holes drilled in the side with eye bolts for the pull string, but it works. They were good t-motors, just quit making them.

I had a motorguide which I used to curse repeatedly, so then I went and got a minn kota, and I ended up cursing that one repeatedly too.
Now I was getting the $150 specials with the plastic brackets. I have come to the conclusion that if you dont get one with a metal bracket, you are in for trouble. Since then I have taken and OMC and put 45 pound minn kota head on it, I've now got it wired right and its doing ok.

hahaha, yea it DOES sound weird. but i know what you mean. i put a weed cutter blade on mine and the thrust went down some. but even with the original blade it wasn't real good in 20+ mph winds. my boat is kinda heavy and 56# ain't enough, for me anyway. gonna get a bigger one. trolers are like outboards, NEVER too much power ya know, hahahaha.

Rule #1 with a trolling motor is: You cannot have too much power. Get more power than you think you need. You won't regret it. |
