Fishing at Holiday Park in the Florida Everglades

I'm new to Bass Fishing. I live near Holiday Park. Any tips on what techniques to use, or were to go, would be helpful. I want to be able to take my Son and make sure we get some action. He's only 3 1/2 yrs old. Trying to introduce him to the sport. I've heard something about the flats, but not really sure what that is. Thanks for the help

Any local tackle shops? That would be a better place to ask, although if someone knows here I'm sure theyll answer.

For all I know the flats could be a reference to saltwater areas, or so localized a term that only a few people in your general area know. By definition flats are an area of flat, shallow water, normally 2-5 feet deep. That almost describes the entire everglades! I do know the glades are loaded with big bass, and most canals down there if you are close by have lots of nice bass as well.

When somebody says "flats", they are generally speaking of the areas that extend from the edge of the body of water to the first drop-off. Generally, this would be the area you would be fishing if you were to fish from shore. This is the area where most bass will spawn, or make beds and lay eggs in order to reproduce.

If you have access to a boat, definitely take advantage of it and try to find the drop-off(s). This would most likely be the most productive area to start out in fishing.

Again, welcome to the boards, and please post-up if you need assistance in areas such as lures, line, rods, colors, etc.
