Default 1st Ammendment

What has happened to the right for free speech? Everytime I sign on to the net or turn on the tube somebody is apologizing for saying something that is not politically correct.

I must be getting old.....

I have always thought and worried the 2nd Ammendment may be the one to do away with but I think the 1st has already gone.

All of this politically correct stuff is BS as far as I am concerned.

Our right to free speech is still there and going strong. You have the right to say it, your listeners have the right to object to it and you have the right to apologize if you wish. There's a big difference between having the right to say something and the appropriateness of what is said.

I don't like gays. There. No apology. Send me to rehab. Put me in jail.

Seriously though, I'm not totally sure about any of it. THere's a very fine line between expressing your opinion and infringing on someone elses right to do the same. (And for the record, I don't dislike gays. I don't approve of their actions, but on a personal level I don't have a problem....)

Marty put it right.

Just cause say Jesse Jackson is a jerk and complains about something not being politically correct does not mean he is infringing on your 1st amendment rights when he whines. He has the right to complain just like you have the right to be un-PC.

The only dangerous entity in these things is the government. Since they are given the power to be the final arbitor of law, should they ever start silencing people, and they have the power to do so - that would be a violation of the 1st.

Be wary of the government guys. Be very wary. They are scary. Very very scary.

I can't remember what city but they are proposing a law to ban certain ethnic slur words. I will have to see if I can find a link.

I saw that. I think it was NYC and it was being directed primarily at the comedy clubs, I think. I don't think it will pass muster if somebody challenges it.

This town is about 5 miles from where I live. Ken Corley is an attention wh*re. The main reason for his actions was probably to make himself look like a sympathiser(sp) and why not? He is a used car tote-the note salesman by day and mayor by night. His main Mayoral office is in the same business. I have dealt with him personally before and have nothing personal against him- he is however one of those people who kinda gives you a funny feeling (creepy amost). Its embarrassing to me that this had to happen right down the road. I think this might all be because blacks often use the word when speaking to eachother yet get extremely offended when whites or others use the moniker. I hate double standards but I will abide by this one. Thats just my two cents honkeys and crackers

Ok, thanks for the info guys. I knew I saw it somewhere last week and that is one of the reasons I posted the thread.

You have to wonder where it stops? I certainly don't believe in using described phrases but when the government tries to ban me from saying it that is not right.

As WTL posted, when our government does something for "our own good" it scares the %$#@ out of me.

I don't believe the Government is OUR government anymore folks, I think the vast majority of them who have any real power or say so, are merely following orders from the Elites and or Bankers. As far as our constitution and rights go, they are there for the time being only. After the next "terrorist attack" they will be even harder to recognize. Look for highway check points in the near future, and you had better try to eliminate as much personal debt as possible. Just my 2 cents worth.

well....if you don't have anything nice to say.....don't say anything at all.....but i am a woman....and it's a natural instinct to voice my opinion....i don't really care if all agree with it or not.....i'm still voicing it....even though now they have a "legal" right to shoot me on site for being a "threat"....
