Size Limits
What do certain size limits mean to lakes? Example - Does a 14" size limit mean there are lots of small bass in the lake? Does an 18" size limit mean lots of big bass? Not enough bass? Please explain.
Thanks Julien |

Bigger restrictions like 18" are used to help the water produce bigger fish over time. When people keep taking out 14" fish you aren't going to grow monsters in that water.

And there are some even better, when you can keep a certain number of fish between X and Y sizes.
Fisheries biologists are the one that set the limits, they sample the lake and decide if there are too many small fish or too many medium fish. It depends of the state and even depends on the lake. |

Raul stated it very well. One other thing to remember is that bass reproduce at times better at differenty sizes. So some of the restrictions might be due to making sure the bass population is allowed to continue through new spawning. Lizardsm

yep the slot limit is yin yang type of deal. it is great way to help up the average size of the bass in that water way.. but a nightmare to those who have to fish it in tournaments..trust me letting a 5 pounder go because it is in the "slot" in a tourny sucks...

Around here its more typical if the size limit is 14 inches for a keeper, your entire tournament day will be catching 13 7/8 inch fish LOL..Its true, dam true!
