Marsh Creek 5/18/08
Took the boat out on Marsh Creek Lake from 8 am to around 3 pm. The conditions were tough since a cold front moved in with rain. Nevertheless, I did get some bites. In the morning I caught a very nice LM on a Terminator Spinnerbait. My second bass didn't come until the afternoon when I picked up a smaller LM on a Skinny Dipper (Houdini color).
I am particulary proud of the LM that I caught in the morning because 1) it was a beauty and 2) it was a product of persistence and "gut instinct". Regarding the latter, for whatever reason, I felt compelled to keep fishing this particular overhanging tree. In my gut, I just knew that a big bass was under it. So, I just kept casting at the tree and hitting it from all angles. At one point, my brother pleaded with me to leave the spot. To placate him, I moved the boat somewhat, but made sure I was able to still hit the tree. And so, I took a few more casts . . . Suddenly, my rod bowed and a nice size Largemouth came to the surface. I didn't weigh the bass but did a get a measurement 21 inches and very fat. I smiled knowing that sometimes my persistence (and stubborness) pays off. |
