Catfish Telephone

Has anybody here heard of a catfish telephone. my dad said he has one but he said its REALLLLLY illegal to use

yes i used one when i was a kid. and it is illegal. what it is is an old telephone, the cranking kind, and you stretch out a wire across the river. whne you turn the crank, it sends an electrical shock through the water. the fish are knocked out for a few minutes. you troll out and take your pick. i got suckered in as a kid see. my great uncle would take us kids and the way he wouldn't get into trouble. only went twice, then my father found out and we never went fishing with ol "uncle" again. but there are other cranks too. as long as it produces an electrical charge.

dont ever do it, you can lose more than your license if you do. You could be lookin at jail time. If you get caught with it and you have fish over the limit, you can be lookin at a SJF or Class A

oh no i didn't!!! man-o-man, now you done gone and brought up ANOTHER old fashioned fishing method. i remember HEARING bout it, but we didn't do that one, still too much noise at night.

You ain't goin to jail.....They might take your license, probably give you a fine, and if you're lucky they'll just bark at you and send you home. Assuming you're only "recreationally" calling fish, especially catfish. If you got a tub full of trout and bass, you're in a heap of trouble, but cats should be fine.....Best not to get caught though haha......

Telephoning is NOT illegal everywhere. I didn't know what it meant until right now, but I was looking at campgrounds in NC (where I'm from), and as I was looking up the fishing there it states that Telephoning is legal in the area. Here's the site. http://www.htohcampground.com/fishing.htm

Depends on what side of the river you are on. Never did it myself, but I've heard of folks going down there to do it. Personally, the only reason to catfish for me is to eat and I wouldn't eat catfish or any fish from out of that river. At least not from around here. Those catfish are likely crackhead fed.
