rattlebait weights
What conditions do you look for when choosing 1/2 or 3/4oz rattlebaits? How much water above the grass before you bump up to 3/4oz. thanks

I don't have much grass around here but I do throw Lipless crankbaits quite a bit. I won't be able to answer your question about the grass but I throw mostly 1/2oz. or 3/4oz. lipless crankbaits. I usually and throwing them when fish are schooled up or when they are chasing shad on flats in the backs of coves and creeks. The only time I will go smaller than 1/2oz is if I am in very shallow water and want the bait to make less noise when hitting the water, or I am trying to match the hatch with a smaller profile.
I know this didn't answer your question but I felt bad because you hadn't got any other replies lol.

I have never bumped to a bigger size bait because of the grass maybe a stiffer rod , but usually only jump to that bigger bait when I want a larger profile coming through the water

i use the 1/8 and 1/4 oz size in clear water. the only time i jump up in size is when it gets muddy and normally its a cotton cordell..

I will use a 1/4oz or 3/8oz lipless when grass is up close to the surface. It allows me to work the bait a little slower and control it better. Otherwise I use a 1/2oz bait.
