Default Mattern Guide Service on Lake Fairfield

Mattern Guide Service on Lake Fairfield

Hello Everybody,

PSALM 30: Verse 5: For His anger endureth but a moment; in His favour is life: WEEPING MAY ENDURE FOR A NIGHT BUT JOY COMETH IN THE MORNING.

Well we had a great day on Lake Fairfield yesterday with over 30 Bass and over 15 of them were over 3 lbers. also 2 were in the 6 lb. range. All Bass were released but the redfish are going to be grilled on the half shell.

As a tournament angler myself trying to get a stringer of 5 Bass that will hit that blessed 20 lb. mark is a real challenge. Then you hit the mother lode of not 1 but 3 sacks over 20 lbs. each.

Bass were hitting french fries in purple passion and watermelon fish off main lake points in 6-15 feet. Lake Fairfield for those of you that do not know. Is a Power Plant lake that runs water in the Lake through an intake and warms it up to about 84 degrees ,lately and then discharges it out of a discharge cove. It maintains its warmth in the water temps through out the winter season. I have been Guiding on Lake Fairfield for the last 4 years and it is always exciting.

Also Redfish are stocked on a regular basis and they are really big. Yesterday that was the icing on the cake when a 6 lb. red hit that french fry. You think you have the Lake record Bass on. Thats right. Redfish in freshwater. You never know when you will find them. But when you do, hold on. Later in the day about 2:00 pm. One of those 10 lber. reds hit that french fry and the battle was on.

I Guide on Lakes: Palestine, Sam Rayburn and Fairfield. But Fairfield is a whole new thing in those colder air temps. For bookings call me at 903-478-2633 or 903-724-1203, or E-mail me and we will get you booked in this winter. Remeber Jesus loves you and the devil is a liar. Don Mattern Sr. with Mattern Guide Service.

PS. Thanks to all my great sponsors, my Kistler 7'11" Helium rod is what I was using yesterday on that carolina rig. It is the very best I have ever used.

Thanks for the report, Freshwater reds are a blast. My dad caught a 19 pounder on Braunig last year fishing for bass. Wish it would of been a 19 pound bass on the end of the line though.

Default Fairfield

We just relocated to North Georgia in June of this year. for the last 16 years I lived in Arlington, TX, and my parents still live in Oakwood (1/2 way between Fairfield and Palestine). That is just about my favorite winter time Bass fishing lake (lake Welsh is my other, too close to call as to which is the best!). I have not found any hot water discharge lakes out here in North Georgia, and that really is a hard pill to swallow! In fact finding any water is a challenge! Between the Corp of Engineers and the drought everything is drying up!
Anyway, I'm new to this forum and moderate on the Texas Fishing Forum. First thing I saw was lake Fairfield and it already makes me homesick!
