I agree with Lizards. IMO bass hit lures for 2 reasons. 1. Hunger 2. Reaction or reflex which relates to #1. Most bass in my area feed on small fish (mostly bluegills) and crayfish. Most small bluegills (depending on habitat) are black or brown on top with silver sides. The only lures I have in my tackle box resembling a bluegill are crank baits (bulk, shape and length.) They're productive lures but they wear my arms out. LOL. I usually throw soft plastics which don't resemble anything in a bass's regular diet around here. A 5" length of plastic in the shape of a pen or night crawler (which is not native to my fishing waters unless introduced on the end of a hook) surely can't look like an injured bluegill or other minnow, Can it? I think it just looks like an easy meal to a bass and bass are like humans, they like it easy. I truly believe color is more a human preference than a bass's. Studies have been made where blinders have been placed on bass and then minnows were introduced into the tank. The bass had no problem locating and feeding on the minnows. Apparently no color preference here.LOL. Hey, I'm headed to the pond and you guessed it,to throw (my) favorite colored plastic
