Tarus Judge.

Not actually a "shotgun" but better IMO, as I prefer a handgun to a long gun for close (tight) quarters defense. Shoots .410 loads and Winchester makes a pretty nasty home defense (.410) load, the PDX, specifically for the Judge. Five shot, laser sight, hand held, minimum recoil when compared to a 12 ga. Also shoots .45 cal long Colt if you want single projectile, but inside I would prefer the PDX .410 ga which makes it a point & shoot weapon rather than one that requires a little more precise aiming. You can also load .410 buckshot as an option for inside the home. Can also be loaded with .410 shot shells for effective control of varmits or snakes when in the woods or on the boat. For distances found inside the home, it will put anyone down efficiently.

I'm with you on the handgun, Bruce. However, if you have kids in the house, you want something that does not penetrate walls as easily. No sense losing a family member to an errant round.

Home invasion you are correct in that a shotgun normally when loaded with number 6 shot or more wont do much damage beyond one wall,12 ga (birdshot)however is more popular.
Not having children and having sold my mossberg snake charmer in 410 I use handguns.
Prior to meeting me have 5 dogs to greet, then a 45 acp,7.63x25 in case your wearing level 2 body armor or are hiding behind a vehicle and have to shoot thru it.Backups at night are my day cc guns 9x18 mak(pa63),Llama 32 acp especial,22 cal revolver 1 in snub.
At the moment and have been for several years surplus com block guns are cheap and available in numbers. My pa 63 is like a bersa thunder 380,on steroids (both are a ppk copy).
All these are to keep someone elses kids out of my home, and out of my wallet and or life .
The taking of a life is not something I relish, these are for self defense purposes only, and only while a perceived threat is imminent.
My handguns are fired on a regular basis not stuck in a drawer as have a cc permit.

Nice! No doubt about it, the Remington 1100 was a very popular gun.

Here's a link that helped me decide what type of shotgun load to use for home protection. It's a 2 page link, on the 2nd page he writes about why not to use birdshot.

For home defense I have two handguns that are withing a few steps of our bed. My favorite is my Springfield XD .40 Sub Compact, but the more I shoot Britneys Kel Tec .380 the more I am liking it as well. If the battle was to then go outside of the bedroom I would head to the gun safe and have a little more fire power in there, including several shotguns and high powered rifles.

I have a Remington 1100 that I got for Christmas from my grandpa when I was younger. Of all the shotguns I have ever shot, it's my favorite.

My Dad, who passed away in 2003, left it for me. I believe Dad bought it back in 1972.

I have two guns if needed. Close at hand is a S&W Tactical .40 cal and a 12 guage mag Remington 11-87 with a 26 inch barrel. A sweet shooting shotgun with practicaly no kick and very easy to wield around.

Home invaders get to meet my Springfield XD .40, 13 rounds of brass jacketed ,serrated hollow points.

I kept a Remington 11-87 close for many years, but just felt like it was much faster and easier to keep a handgun by the bed.

Glock 27 with night sights loaded with Federal Hydra Shocks and if I make it to the safe, a Russian SKS loaded with jacketed hollow points. Not the ideal HD gun, I realize, but my shotguns only hold 2 shells. I live alone so over penetration isn't a concern. I can't imagine a scenario where I'll need more than the .40 though.

Remington 870 super mag filled up with BB tungsten 3 1/2 inch goose loads. If I don't have time to get to that or I need more then I've got a .40 Glock 22 ready to rock with 5 more loaded mags all in my nightstand within quick reach if needed
It's just my wife and I in our house so I don't have to worry about over penetration. I've seen the results of someone trying to protect their house with a handgun who missed (which most people will in a stressful situation like that) and mortally wounding a loved one, terrible situation to have to deal with.

Jeez, who are all these people getting 1100's as gifts when they were kids, all I got was an 870? Used an 870 for awhile, slightly modified. When I got my SBE, I fell in love with Benellis, and I got an M4 for "home defense". I have kids, so I go with 000 buck, and slugs, walls be damned.
