I'm definitely getting a mattlures bluegill soon, as all the lakkes I fish have them, but none have trout, so its a waste of money to buy trout.

Have some of Mattlures and they look awesome really havent thrown them much yet, didnt have the right setup to throw them on but that now has changed ordered a 7' 10" Heavy Okuma Guide Select rod and a Shimano Cardiff 300A from Tacklewarehouse today. Guess ill have to only take that rod and reel and the swimbaits to force myself to learn how to use them.

I know a guy who uses the Matt lures bluegill on beds religiously. He swears by it. He says it suspends nose down so it looks like it is "pecking" at the eggs. He says his best times is when the eggs are already laid and are being guarded. He said he pulls up on a bed, catches the male with something small, puts that bluegill on the bed, then backs off out of sight and waits for the female. He said he has to get way back or the bigger females will not come back up. He is a big believer in it.

I got it a little early so I've already gotten to fish it a few times and the difference is amazing when your throwing a bigger bait such as the BBZ-1 that weighs 5 oz. Using my 7' heavy flipping stick just wasnt cutting it.

The best advice on fishing the baits is to take just your swimbait set up so that you don't pick up another rod if you don't get bit really quick. I've had days where I only got a couple of bites after 2 hours of nothing, but the bites I did get were worth the wait.

Don't be discouraged by followers, you'll get that alot. Sometimes the fish just aren't in the mood, but knowing you got their attention lets you know that if it was the right day they would have blasted your bait.

I"ve done the best so far with a slow steady retrieve.

The BBZ-1 in the slow sinking model has been my best bait at this point, but I recently got a huddleston deluxe which will be seeing a lot of time in the water soon.

I live in Arkansas and fish mostly in Oklahoma, so there are not alot of people doing the big bait thing here.

My next planned purchases are a 3:16 wakebait Jr., more huds, and some mattlures ultimate bluegills.
Dwain;

One of my Pro Staff and I both know Bill Siemantel personally, the designer of the BBZ-1 swimbaits. He coaches on how to get strikes when all you can get is bass following the bait by doing one thing he found works like magic most of the time. He said to stop the bait dead in the water for a second and then give your rod a really good snap forward and stop reeling and hang ON and the bbz will turn 180 degrees and be looking into the bass's eyes and he said, just be ready to set the hook. Because as you all know, bass eat all fish head on most of the time unless their fry.

Hope you'll catch more fish...

Stick-em,
I read that from one of Bill's articles on the bassfan Big bass zone. I have not yet had a good chance to try it, but it sure looks cool when you stop the bait and let it do the 180° turn. I can definately see where at some point that will be a killer technique. So far a slow steady retrieve has been my best weapon, but I haven't really gotten to fish the bait on a calm day where I could clearly see a follower in time to execute this move. When I get one doing so I will definately post about it. Were in the middle of an Ice storm now, so much for the super mild winter we've been having up to this point lol.

I was under the impression that Jerry Rago designed the BBZ-1 ? Not that it matters, but Rago's baits always has an open mouth design in his baits.I am getting a floater BBZ-1 for the spawn, post spawn season.There are too many good looking swimbaits out there, I am going to need a second job. Lmao........

I just ordered tsunami swim baits. They come as big as 9 inches long (doesn't say the weight).
5" (per 4) - 3.29
6" (per 4) -$3.49
7" (per 2) - $3.49
9" (each) - $4.29

I am going to try them off deep drop offs once my depth finder comes.

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...equestid=71778

I ordered the golden bunker color.

You can see a picture here:

Here is another color: blue/black
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...3354&rd=1&rd=1

Chartreuse/Silver

They are the cheapest at Cabelas I am pretty sure. Correct me if I am wrong. If the links don't come through, just copy paste them into the address bar.

Those are pretty good looking, let us know how they sink, swim, suspend, catch fish, etc!

Cabelas has a whole section on swimbaits.

I don't like storm swimbaits, I only use them for rock fish.

Hi Dwain;

I can't wait to give the BBZ-1 baits a try next month after shows are over with and I have more time on my hands. I've used Osprey's over the years and was successful in strikes but it needs the rear stinger hook to really catch them when smaller fish abound.

Storm Wild Eye'z I have used very successfully for Stripers in the Bay for years and they, like all plastic baits, rip and tear usually within two fish or one more and that''s not a problem for us for mending. The SPRO baits only have the soft tail and they swim unbelievably real. Not associated with SPRO but they do however reccomend our products in all their newest swimbait packaging and on their website. www.spro.com

I just got a Hudd ROF 0 that I won from Ebay, cant wait to try it out, but I will have to. We had a big Ice Storm this week, but as soon as the air temp recovers, the power plant lake will be ready for action
